If you're going then best to book accommodation now. I tried 5 places just now before finding something 5 or 6kms out of town - last year it was 15kms away so I'm getting better.

Anybody know what the 70 kilometer route looks like?  See the profile but no route.  Want to see if I can convince Mrs Batty to do the 70 kilometers.

They say it's a circular route, different from last year's out-and-back 100km. We were only a handful of riders on the 100km last year, most cyclists were on their own the whole race, the start time is not good (+-10h00) and you sit on your own the whole day waiting for your friends to finish the 175km.

For any accomodation contact 082 957 0102 (Willie Botha) or

082 897 3947 (Sandy van Niekerk). They are officially reponsible for this

10:15 Start time for the 70 km.  That is pretty k@k.  THink she will then most propably not do it and just tag along as a support vehicle for us on the 175 km.

Noticed that accomodation is a problem ... n big problem.  But might have something organised.

Cheetah.  If you say that Willie and Sandy is officially responsible for accomodation, what does that mean?  Would they actually be able to find you someting or would they just provide a list of places with accomodation?

This is one of my reqular training routes, my wife did it with friends a week ago again.

From the middle of town its out in a southely direction past the graveyard and sewerage works and then out towards Sintimule and Kathama.

The First 33km is flat with long 5km drags  (not climbs), and 9 days out of 10 with a tailwind.

After about 33km the route rejoins the  Vivo Road  12km from the finish of stage 3.

The first  3km on the Vivo Road are downhill to the railway line .

As you know from then the road starts to become undulating and at 8 km from the finish goes over Otto's Hoogte.
