"In the six months since ASO confirmed its wildcard invitations to the Tour de France, it has been repeated the world over that MTN-Qhubeka will become the first African team to participate in the race. Even MTN-Qhubeka's own press release announcing its Tour line-up rehashed the same mistaken assertion, describing itself as the "first-ever African team to ride the Grande Boucle.""

Ignorance is bliss, never knew this myself but I also didn't jump on "1st African Team Band Wagon" either.

Not even the CSA president knew this either.

Yip - you are right, South African Sponser but registered in Britain, thats where the confusion comes in.

And just to complicate matters - at one stage partly owned by Cannondale so we had even a USA connection.

Basically, Barloworld was as South African as Chris Froome...

This thread has cleared up so much confusion for me!

Now onto the JFK assassination, Loch Ness and Area 51.

So who will be the first to tweet correct https://twitter.com/carltonkirby from eurosport so that he does not say it every day every time a mtn rider is on screen for the next 3 weeks

I like Carlton's commentary, just don't want to hear him get wrong wrong wrong wrong...
