Look like they did cross close to the camp site .  I am going to try and go pass my camp site this year . Wife ordered me to stop watching any Bear Grills programs and seek proper shelter

Normally I go through the river, only once nearly drowned when it was in flood, faster crossing the river, cold water good for your legs, not so good if you're short....

They left Allendale at 4.50ish.  I think that is early enough, but a nav error on the pre Donnybrook forest cost Steve and Colleen a couple of hours of daylight.

They took a left instead of a right.

not sure, but we left Centacow around 12.00 and only got to Ntsikeni in the dark. Looks like they only left Centacow after 13.00.

 

just checked my photo's time stamp. 17.45 just before we climbed the fence, so still light. But we got a bit lost after that and only reached the lodge in the dark.

There is no good answer to this question it depends on you speed and route knowledge fit guys should do it in under ten hours including relaxed food stop so daylight only will do. But make a mess of one of the tree forests and it becomes a long day out
