Just bought the pdm 520 pedals. Apperntly they do not come with the multi release spd. .. But they guy says I must just lift it a bit more for easier use. So one more spacer between spd and shoe should help. Will have to test tonight.

If it is of any worth, I did come across a tutorial online somewhere showing how to convert normal to multi release with a file and some elbow grease.

Nice. lets just try the new pdm's with a lifted spd.

Hopefully it solves the problem. It was loose enough to lock and unlock the shoe to pedal with my hands.

You are spending far too much time stressing about quick release. Just tell her to stop being a cry baby and accept that she will fall once or twice until the unclipping instinct kicks in.

First week I used cleats, fell twice, once in spectacular fashion into a flowerbed. In my daughters case, she put on the pedals, went for a ride. Fell off, got back up, was in the wrong gear to pull off, fell off again on the exact same spot. In my wife's case, she fell over going UP the mineshaft at Kyalami ~ gear too big, legs too small, simply ground to a halt and fell over.

It happens to everyone. It requires a HTFU attitude.

Hahaha. Cool. Thanks for that mental picture. Had a good laugh. I will tell her that she has no more excuses.

those 520's are perfect - I learnt to ride clipless in them and never struggled unclipping.

they have a little tension adjuster (with + and - signs), which you can turn to "-" or loose for her.  Remember to do BOTH sides of pedal, i.e. top and bottom/

Tried last night to remove the left pedal. It is so dam tight, that the spanner just opens up and slips.

And yes I am turning the right way that is the wrong way. I double checked on the new pedals. The right one came of very easily.

Any tips from the pros on how I can get that pedal of?

are you turning the spanner in a clockwise direction? Left hand pedal thread is clockwise to loosen, anti clock to tighten and right hand pedal thread is anti clock to loosen and clockwise to tighten

Essentially the opposite way to the rotation of the pedals.,

If you are doing it the right way, then use a bit of penetrating spray, and using a mallet, softly but firmly tap the spanner around to "shock" the thread into loosening, much like how an air-spanner works.

I've always found that the allen key on the inside of the crank/pedal works best, avoid the spanner section. Assuming current pedals have that section.

best tip i ever found was to push the spanner or allen wrench down toward the ground vs trying to rotate, in essence what you need to do is set the crank at 8 o'clock from the vertical and try push the tool downwards toward the ground vs down and forward in a circular movement if that makes sense?

has worked every single time i have a stuck peddle, its is however a bit of a balancing act trying to get its all done, grip the rear brake and make sure the bike is on the ground not lifted in a  stand etc.

Jip I am turning the correct direction. Is the spray something like Q20?

Yep.

Do they have allen key bits on the inside of the thread? You'd probably be able to get a better purchase on the pedal there, and use another closed spanner / tubing / whatever to give you more leverage, as Ray suggested.
