My BIL and a good friend both live in cape town and both use Bridge Cycles and have for a long time. Both of them moved down there from joburg and the fact that they ended up using bridge I think says a lot.

I'm curious to know which bike you are buying from a store in Cape Town and how you came about it?

Bridge has been advertising a number of frames here on the Hub recently (not as Bridge Cycles though) ... wouldn't be surprised if it's one of those.

Some good deals if your size.

PS:

OP - Bridge is a legit store in the southern suburbs of Cape Town ... you shouldn't have any issues.

Bridge is a legit store, they have been around for years and run by two brothers I think.

Would I buy from them - yes

Would they rip one off if they thought you were loaded and/or an inexperienced buyer - absolutely (no prices on anything)

Would I have them service my bike - not a chance

I would make sure I get everything in writing from them first (they should get the same from you)

I get that some people would buy from any store but particular about where they service their bikes. I'm the same actually. But why would you buy from a store if you believe that they are inclined to rip people off?

Good store, have some great specials at time. Bit old school at times  (not a bad thing) but if they are willing to send it to a LBS near you to check out then that is pretty decent move to keep you happy.

I agree with alleyne about the service thing. One bad experience and I don't go back though -  for anything. Mine was a freebody replaced when the only problem was a new chain on an old cassette. I was inexperienced and didn't know better.

Happened 4 years ago - I haven't been back.

I have not bought from them since the below happened.

I was in the store picking up the bike I had just bought from them. While I was talking to one of the brothers (the main one) one of the assistants came up and asked him the price of a bike. He then asked the assistant who it was for, the lad pointed to a wealthy looking mom, the brother then said "for her, make it xxx". Right in front of me.

I checked out said bike as I left and he had added on a few thousand rands onto what the price should have been. I had been looking at the bike both there and at Olympic Cycles.

If they were the only ones who had something I needed I would get it from them though in the future.
