Long story short . My Kona was stolen from the workshop of Cyclists Workshop . Bike was built-up with all brand new XT groupset , new wheels , etc . bought from fellow Hubbers . Value was/is R14k+ . Bike not insured by myself. LBS 's insurers did not compensate due to technicality. Now for the good news : LBS will compesate me to the value of R15k if I buy a new bike through them , no hassles. Joshua , you are a true gentleman.

Is that norm? Hectic!

Yes, and the same goes for your car when you take it in for a service.

Forsdicks wrote off our CEO's 745 a few years ago when they tested the car after the service. While it was a fairly old model, it was extremely well looked after with low mileage, so the insurance pay-out was no-where near the car's true worth. He did squeeze them very hard when he purchased a demo X3 from them. I think they lost a bit on the X3 (and rightly so).

To be honest, if a workshop had to insure all the clients vehicles (or bikes) on their floor at any given time, the cost would just be astronomical.

A FEW YEARS BACK  we had a beak in at work  amongst the cars they stole radios from was a competition sound vehicle fully pimped , insurance simply said "do you have a visable disclaimer  board ?"   yes  "oh never mind just tell them sorry"

YOU ALWAYS LEAVE YOUR VEHICLE , property, at own risk,

Happened to me as well as few months back while car was in for a service, minor fender bender within the workshop, which the manager duly offered to repair, was still trying to squeeze him to forfeit the service fee but no such luck. In hindsight i should've just been lucky they repaired it.

I always wondered about that - would've thought they have some kind of business insurance. Would personal bike insurance cover this or would they blame the establishment I wonder.
