Well done Tubehunter, congrats on the 1st marathon. They say less than 1% of the worlds population has run a marathon in their lifetime, in 7 weeks i hope to be in that bracket too.

Enjoy the whole process Scott! It really is a different type of animal. Unlike cycling, there is really nowhere to hide or downhills to freewheel on to try and recover. I enjoyed the mental challenge of this as much as the physical, seeing as it was a foray into the unknown for me! I'll be watching for your report back!

Well done Tubehunter! That first one is special...

Have to agree with what has been said - that 30k mark is where it all tends to turn tough. And on this route - that section going back through the drab buildings was just... well, it played with my mind! It was there where I was sure I'm settling for 4:15 and so be it.

Also, weather could not have been much better. I really enjoyed the run - will come back for this one next year! What was great was having that one previous marathon "experience" - and could directly translate to say that I'm feeling much better than Winelands at 30k's and also much faster, so... and likewise with other time checks. Really weird for me was how I felt good (may not have looked so!) and fresh most of the way, but my legs were absolutely dead all the way. Initially dead and listless and later they were sore - yet I was still feeling like I'm fresh and can breathe through my nose at most times, etc. Anybody know what that can be?

Highlight for sure was running with/around the Gugs crowd for a good 10-15 k's in middle. Awesome bunch, lots of banter. And everybody knows them and cheers for them!

Shot for the kind words chaps!

It really has put into perspective for me, the challenge that is the Comrades!

Well done for hanging in and finishing. Seabee as well. As someone mentioned earlieryou are now a member of a very exclusive club.

It is indeed a major challenge not to be taken lightly.. Just running a marathon never mind comrades.

Been running for most of my adult life, done my share of marafuns ???? And I'm struggling to get ready for one now in 2 months time.... Anything over 21km just hurts... Age might have something to do with it tho ....

Ran my second 21 in training and heaven knows how I'm going to do a marafun

2:42...well done ferret! Seabee?

Thanks Stretch... Yep, Pretty good day at the Office

Probably went out a Bit quick going through halfway in 79.51 but that first 21kms is proper fast..

Had a Little sudden unplanned Portaloo visit at 27kms   and found it hard to get back into a rhythm after that.

But its a 4min PB from Kaapse and 5mins quicker than CT last year so I cant complain..

On the whole an awesome day and awesome race again.... Will already be pencilling it in for 2017...

Well done to everyone else who ran PBs, their first marathon or just got around the 42kms... Even the 10k for that matter....

Who else is doing Kaapse Hoop? I am struggling to juggle cycling and running over weekends... I am running my first 21km this coming weekend after Comrades, furthest I have run is 15km. Feeling stressed about it.

Read on the comrades FB page so guys are doing the marathon there and then the HM the following day at Soweto   totally crazy that, well for someone of my caliber that is. I know Caroline did it this year at Om die Dam 50km and Edenvale HM the next day but then she is super human after all.

Entered the comrades on Saturday and went for my first training run this afternoon, following the finishers program on the comrades website. Starting to realize the massive undertaking it is going to be to actually commit to all the training, but I'm looking forward to it :)

Any advice or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated :)

the less work you put in now - the longer your day will be. Keep at it and the runs will feel easier and more comfortable
