Hacc Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 That is insane!! One of my club mates ran 3000km from Jan to May in 2015. I passed him at Inchanga that year.... he was walking and not feeling well. He finished in 11:45 or thereabouts. I don't think I do 3000km in a year, nevermind from Jan to May. Your body needs to rest. Lexx 1
Lexx Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 If its your job, then that's a different ball game. But working full time and still training that amount is insane. My dads friend Chris Reneke came 3rd in the comrades in the 80's. He was also working fulltime, and said he had to get up every morning at 03:00 to train then off to work and training in the afternoon again. Hacc and Ferret69 2

I am doing something wrong, I don't see myself coming 3rd. I need to give him a call. Perhaps it's that 18 mins that's costing me... Edited February 28, 2017 by Jackes Ferret69 and Lexx 2
Ferret69 Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 I Suppose Us Runners cant complain At 5min per km you only need to find 8hrs a week to log a 100km week, 10 for 120kms To train properly for an Ironman or an Epic you need to find closer to 18-22hrs a week _David_ and Lexx 2
EmJayZA Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 (edited) That's just Sunday's run, they still doing around 25 on the Saturday to finish up with 160k+ weeks.. But why? Surely the gains become so small that it's not worth it (for us weekend warriors anyway). Sorry - running is really my worst sport - it's literally the only thing holding me back at present. That is some insane distance, and the risk for injury becomes very high. Still an impressive feat though. Edited February 28, 2017 by EmJayZA Lexx 1
Stretch Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 with regards to energy stuff. Training runs i do water stops. So for a 30km run I will stop twice for a water break. I bring a voooma or bit of biltong along if incase I'm feeling a bit hungry. For a marathon I will chow two voomas while running - one at 22 odd and one at 34 odd. For comrades - I use gu's - 25/50/75..and then 2 or three rehidrate's in between and some dry wors to nibble on every now and then. If I am lucky my wife meets me along route for a bovril saamie and a super M Lexx, ScottCM, Hacc and 1 other 4
Stretch Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 distance wise 2015 - 1300 snuck in BR2016 - 1470 more comfortable BR! Lexx 1

Hacc Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Jackes, why are you getting up so early? My new year's resolution was to start running in the mornings... well that didn't go as planned. I run in the evenings during the week, struggle to get up so early and then go to work. I see James and Jodie Cunnama train 35 to 40 hours a week for Ironman in the peak months. (Then again they are pros.) Ferret69 1

But yeah i do understand your point. At the moment i am battling with the cycling training for my 70.3, so much so that i don't know if i will do another one again. Hats off to those whom are able to rack up those hours week in and week out. Edited February 28, 2017 by ScottC-M Lexx, EmJayZA and Hacc 3

Lexx Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 When I have to be at work at 06:00 in the morning on some weekends, I will get up at 03:00 do a 22-23km run go to work and then just do a 5km run in the afternoon again. But running all alone in the dark that time in the morning is a bit scary. _David_ 1
Jackes Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Jackes, why are you getting up so early? The only, promise you, time we have to train. So it's either that or it does'nt happen. Have to be done by 05:00. Lexx and Messier87 2

Lexx Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 So my Tendonitis in my hand did not heal up as expected after the medicine the doc gave me. Just got a Cortisone shot to see if it would help. Luckily I wont be running the Uniwisp 42km this weekend, otherwise i could've pulled a Lance on myself and won the race _David_, Stretch and Hacc 3
