V12man Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Yea me to. I would usually take two or three during a long event. Well slow mags. How about the usn cramp blocker? They are essentially the same thing. Pieter1 1
V12man Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 PS - I am also one of those not on the fence about NSAIDS in endurance events. No go... If it does not catch you on the day, it does damage anyways. Is one event worth the risk? (But that's just my 2c...)Smart
Stretch Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Who knows about the Asics brand? Poobies dont have my GT2000's in stock and I need a few runs before 2oceans...so I was thinking of getting GT3000's are they one in the same..ala cumulus and nimbus. All research seems to suggest this..just interested to hear if anyone knows explicitely

CobusV Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Never have and never will take Myprodol or any NSAIDS for any endurance event. Only HTFU pills on the day. Chris_ 1
V12man Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 So you're a bit on the fence about the use of NSAIDS in endurance events  It's a bit of a balancing act.... trying to stay calm about it..... Andrew Steer 1
V12man Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 There is still a grave risk if you just take one myprodol right? getting the feeling that some people think 1 or 2 is ok? My understanding is that isn't, right?Probably not ok for some people - but the level it affects individuals might vary. It's really hard to say with any accuracy - all I will say is that my sister in law has a patient that passed away after 2 and some alcohol the night before (perhaps a fair amount) - at least we think it was 2 based on what was taken out of the blister pack when he was found, but he didn't survive total kidney failure - perhaps if he had been found 2 hours earlier interventions would have been more effective than they were. My professional opinion is that they should not be taken at all - before, during or after an endurance event, and I see no reason to change that.

SeaBee Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Stupid one regarding this long taper for ultra thing... Just low-intensity running for my session tomorrow (was considering a slight hill interval session?) and a shorter harder session or two (at least one will be higher intensity) over the weekend with very little - and low intensity - next week?  What are your secret ingredients?

I will probably still run 40km this week with the longest being a 15km run. I do take it easy and try to stay away from hilly routes. Next week I will run the 4km Club TT at an easy pace and then go for a 3km jog the Friday morning in Blouberg just to enjoy the view. I would also like to hear your comments about tapering. One of my Ironman friends don't taper at all. SeaBee 1

And that is it. SeaBee and Hacc 2
Hacc Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Just did the Ironman run in tri noosa 11's, prefer them to my Nimbus 19's.  Good for that distance at least, whether for ultra distances not sure. After my terrible run with the Nimbus 19's on Sunday, I started looking for 18's. I bought a pair today at The Sweatshop in Bedfordview. The guy was a bit upset/rude that I said the 19's were terrible. I struggled to find stock of the 18's. I am seriously considering changing to NB. I got the brand manager's number of Asics - will ask him what I can do with my 19's as I cannot run with it, paid R2800 for it and only did 100kms. Lexx 1

Dammit, but shoes are expensive. I bought my latest pair of NB from Totalsports on a sale in January. It is still V1 where V3 is already out. Paid R850. My trail shoes were R600 on a sale on Inov8's website.
