Chris_ Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 Omtom - Another stupid question. Is it really that chilly in the mornings that you guys take tops with? I should be ok, but the ladies don't gel with the cold normally. And do you tie it around your waist when you take it off till you get to your support? Or support is only at Houtbay and I'm not sure I want to run a marathon with a top flapping behind me. cut some holes and jump in a black bag - it really works, then dump it at the start line. or go buy a cheap long sleeve shirt which you can bin at the start line, I believe they all get collected at the end and given to charity. candz1 1
Khronis Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 After my terrible run with the Nimbus 19's on Sunday, I started looking for 18's. I bought a pair today at The Sweatshop in Bedfordview. The guy was a bit upset/rude that I said the 19's were terrible. I struggled to find stock of the 18's. I am seriously considering changing to NB. I got the brand manager's number of Asics - will ask him what I can do with my 19's as I cannot run with it, paid R2800 for it and only did 100kms. Is The Sweatshop your regular place where you buy your shoes ? . Was thinking of going there when i need to replace mine but don't know now after what you have said.
Jackes Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 I will not take a top along to the start. It should be around 10deg. If I'm outside for 5min I get accustomed to the cold. 30min before the start the seeding blocks are full and it will feel warmer with all the people anyway. It looks like the cold should be over by next weekend as well and they predict nice and sunny at this stage. Wouldn't mind clouds though!

If you decide to go there speak to Lebo. He was very friendly and helpful. The guy behind the counter was very unfriendly and didn't seem interested in what I had to say. Khronis 1

I throw it away along the route.
SeaBee Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 *Sigh* The mrs has been struggling with a sore throat and as of yesterday cold-like symptoms as well. My throat is sore most of the time anyways (due to training) but I can feel a bit of an increased sting and swallowing is getting more and more interesting. And this morning I gave my first couple of sneezes. I'm adamant that it's hay fever on my side, but will pop extra vita's and gargle the living daylights out of this throat.

It is also with the changing of the season... everyone around me is sick. Drink extra vitamins, a Neurobian injection will also help.

Gargle salt water, even better ( and WAY grosser ) is take a 250ml water, with half a teaspoon salt, a little bit of bicarb of soda on the tip of the spoon and the same little bit of sugar and suck it through your nostrils, whole glass, twice a day. It opens up everything as you can imagine. Twice a day for starters, once for maintaining. Not sure what you use already, but something like neo claritine/dazet daily and also omnair daily. My sinusitus is much better since last weeks dodging of the antibiotics. My wife also had the throat and nose signs last night, so we also need to keep this incheck before next weekend! Jackes Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 (edited) This is gold! Yup, works like a miracle. Advice from a old Ear, nose and throat specialist oomie... I have experienced nicer things in my life as stated, but luckily one gets used to anything quickly. Edited April 7, 2017 by Jackes

Also been struggling with sinus, sore throat en sneezing since the weekend. Gradually getting better. Confident that next week I will be 100% SeaBee and Lexx 2
candz1 Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 SeaBee, I had same problem on Monday...downed Echinoforce forte 3x day, and disprin 3x day and it worked a treat. Im not an ultra runner or anything near to that but even for the half marathon a cold is not fun. My fun runs yesterday and this morning, got rid of the last of the sniffs. SeaBee and CobusV 2
b-rad Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 In my last few runs my right quad is becoming quite stiff, not the entire quad but a smaller area. My mileage has been pretty steady lately (over 100km weeks) and I did a 52km run on the weekend where I was very comfortable. Is it best to see a physio about this or would a decent sports massage relieve the tightness?Went for a 1hr sports massage this morning. Was tight in quite a few areas and the massage helped big time. Will try have one done more regularly.

YouTube has instructions. We have been adding some specific meds to these to treat some nasal conditions - works pretty well. Edited April 7, 2017 by V12man
