Pieter1 Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 After spraining my ankle quite badly last year September I still have some pain in it. I have done like 3 5k runs since. Walking 100+ km a week probably wont help. Wierd thing is x-rays dont show anything. Going to wear a moon boot for a week or two and see of that helps. After that I'll go for a MRI. Does anyone else have some kind of sugestion? I really want to run again. Mudsimus 1

V12man Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Yea but with it still hurting it might be a stress fracture or something.MRI will show a stress fracture as well as any arthritic changes in the joint- if you are in pain so that it prevents running then that's a good start to find the issue or eliminate some potentials. Andrew Steer Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Still waiting for some feedback from some of the team...Haac? Cobusv? Who else?Just popped on to see myself... Hacc you okay? How did the Easter 100 guys go as well while we are at it?They say you get through those three days you are golden for Comrades
Andrew Steer Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Our first distance past 42 was indeed something to remember. Everything went so smooth and patiently until Hout Bay. Then we experienced a long and painful death up Constantia. So much that we gave up on finishing in time when the 7 hour bus passed us halfway up. We walked the while Constantia and somehow was able to run again on the other side, catching and passing that group. We made up so much time that we could've walked the last three and made it relaxingly and enjoying the moment. Thankfully there was no sign of my wife's itb, a true miracle, but I felt mine before Chappies and it killed me to the end. It is totally BUGGERED, I hardly walk. All in all, WHAT a race and organising!!! So sad to hear about Caroline, hopefully it was more precaution for Comrades Well done to you and the wife... ITB is a pain, but many runners manage it. I didn't need to even stretch mine this race, so definitely getting 'there'. The camber for a lot of this route was a bitch though, it really doesn't help - I was running in gutters, on pavements, pretty much anywhere I could find anything flattish at times. It really helps to save your ITB if you can keep impact surface flatter! It's not surprising you felt better after walking Constantia, I had planned to walk it from the start and stuck with that on race day. It's 20minutes for 2km's, but being able to still run at 6min/km after that makes it all worth while. Running those steep gradients really hammers the muscles, unless you are a racing snake that must do it due to obtain loftier goals, it's a no brainer to walk... and save your legs for the stuff you can run.

Hacc you okay? How did the Easter 100 guys go as well while we are at it?They say you get through those three days you are golden for ComradesI do not have Comrades dreams, so did day three only. It was a pleasant morning which started with a slight drizzle. Perfect for running! Started easy, and ended slowly Andrew Steer 1

Haven't had the most comfortable sleeps so will see how i feel tomorrow... Been really hot and dry so been drinking a lot more than i usually do as well.. as well as being in holiday and having more beer and wine than usual...So might just be that too. Â Was reading up just to see if there was correlation cos you okes got me scared. I never took anything during the run.. But did take a cataflam 2 nights prior
Messier87 Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 I have an odd question regarding heart rate creep…During a 50k run a few weeks ago, I found that my heart rate was escalating drastically towards the second half and especially the end even though fitness was good. I felt fine though. Then I consulted Google who suggested it could be a higher core temperature that causes it. And yes, the run was initially along the coastline starting early hours and once we turned more inland and the sun got higher my HR went up gradually until it was concerning high for the effort involved. So – Saturday at OMTOM I made a point of using water sachets to wet my head and torso to keep cooler. Although there was still heart rate creep it wasn’t nearly as bad.Does this make sense and is it in fact, true or am I reading something in my stats that should be attributed to coincidence or something else?Â
Stretch Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 You also just simply get tireder and your heart has to work more Messier87 1

But managed it with a soft cast and compression for a week and then some light stretching. Did a 21k today with no pain during or after.
