Sepia Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 So much truth and courage in the last couple of posts. It is a privilege to be able to relate to the pain and suffering you all went through. Well done again to all who crossed the line. Stretch, Hacc and Messier87 3
SwissVan Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Of course there are circumstances where sometimes you need to quit.. But when you go through halfway at comrades at 3:47... Even with blown legs and naseau.... You can still walk it home!Yes you would think so, that's exactly my point though. Quitting when you don't really need to, people have different motivations and thought processes when under stress.... even the stress of physical exercise they are used to doing. Basically you have to have been there to unnerstand it... Sepia and Stretch 2

ScottCM Posted June 8, 2017 Author Posted June 8, 2017 This is what is missed with Virtual clubs After this season i shall be leaving my 2nd virtual club and be joining a club in my area. i doubt i would do much club runs etc but i definitely believe in supporting the people who try and put back in the sport vs those whom try reap the profits from an armchair. I just could not see the point in waiting till the end of the year, so i paid the monies this morning and sent through my clearance letter to my new proper non virtual club Andrew Steer, Stretch, Hacc and 1 other 4

My club is my family. I guess it is what you make of it, so get involved. Join the club runs. You will make friends for life. ScottCM Posted June 8, 2017 Author Posted June 8, 2017 To all my Discovery Vitality team mates, yes you know whom you are, I see none of you have reached your weekly goal target yet. What , you think just because you did a small club run on Sunday you don't have to do anything else for the rest of the week? Go out there and give me a 3 hour run , I want my smoothie damnit. I am feel so disorientated intentionally not doing any training today as per my taper plan (Own plan, nothing official) for next wkn's IM70.3 , I'm only starting to comprehend what you guys were talking about a few weeks ago when you were tapering for Comrades. ycowley Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 Will have to wait to join a club until after October as the 21km race that I have ear marked for my first is the one that the club that I am thinking of joining organises and the club members are prohibited from running the race as they must volunteer to work.
Stretch Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 Not to mention the fact that I'm prepared to run twice as far in a club run than I can typically muster running solo before I feel the urge to stop! just remember that running solo build up the mental strength to run something like a comrades!

Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk yup - my club includes a lot of mates from school and some new mates. We are a small club..so much so..that when people see more than 2 of us running together in a race they ask if we having an AGM ..but year on year we have seen 10 -20% growth..so we must be doing something right! Tubehunter Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 just remember that running solo build up the mental strength to run something like a comrades! For sure! In my case, 70% of my runs are solo so it's lekka to have the club runs to change that and add a little extra mileage to my normal efforts! Stretch 1
Tubehunter Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 Will have to wait to join a club until after October as the 21km race that I have ear marked for my first is the one that the club that I am thinking of joining organises and the club members are prohibited from running the race as they must volunteer to work. The club will usually host a pre event run for its members so if you join before, you'll still get the chance to do the run and get a result, but just not on the official day of the event.
Jackes Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 just remember that running solo build up the mental strength to run something like a comrades! Agreed. Unfortunately due to our circumstances, we have not joined a single club run the past 12 months since our training started. It was just the two of us in the morning cold and silence. And I know what value that had on Sunday. When things unfortunately worked out like they did on Sunday, where we lost my green number friend and his experienced friend that would've guided us through our first one, before Cowies and the second and final time on Botha's. We just did what we were used to, suffer along on our own, sticking to what we know and helping each other along. Being two obviously made it easier and more special, but even being on my own, nothing would've stopped me. That is the kind of headspace you develop. Stretch 1
