Ferret69 Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Of course there are many other events with huge climbs, but the intention of my post was to compare two races of similar distances in the Pta/Jhb area, call it friendly rivalry if you like (BTW LUT's real ascent seems to be 2438m? ) My Garmin begged to Differ... Ferret69 Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Strava never Lies.. That's what I love about trail running. Such a chill atmosphere. Yep never ever... especially when you have done elevation corrections... haha I'm the same, January to June is all about Two Oceans and Comrades... then I take July off and August onwards is to focus on 1 Fast marathon (as the next years qualifier) and 1 Ultra Trail late in the year.. CobusV Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Monties is on my list for next year. Plenty of positives: It is close to Gauteng; relatively cheap; plenty accommodation options; my wife will not do an ultra trail, so I don't have to wait for her. And maybe it is time for Skyrun Lite as well. I'm 40 next year - bederf jouself. Chris_, Ferret69 and Lexx 3

dave303e Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 and then Hardrock 100 comes in with 10073.64m elevation gain and an ave elevation of 3352m to make us all realise our runs are easy... Ferret69 1
Pieter-za Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Yep never ever... especially when you have done elevation corrections... ha ha"Elevation databasesIn the past, we consulted public elevation databases to determine the elevation at each point in the activity. The resolution of these databases varied based on location and we were not able to control for the many errors in these databases. We now have an elevation look-up service powered by data from the Strava community. Each activity that is uploaded from a device with a barometric altimeter is used to build the new Strava elevation basemap. "Somehow I trust the Garmin TOPO SA mapset more, as I have seen many errors with the Strava basemap. PS : What did your ascent show before the elevation correction - IIRC the 920 XT uses a barometer?

A step backwards in my opinion, esp seeing as people don't calibrate them regularly and activities like kloofing really mess with these readings Pieter-za 1
