How does sugar-free Lemonade work?

Also trying to cut down on sugar and saw the sugar-free Lemonade at Woolworths. Surely it should still have sugar in it to create the flavour?

Let us know how you feel tomorrow after the bread and all that starch. Might feel like you've got a bellyful of cement. Some folks get seriously bloated and uncomfortable after eating bread again after a layoff. My missus is like that.

Weekend didn't go to plan at all! Suffice to say I had the home made burger with a small portion of chips on Sat evening to no ill effect - luckily the Boks played well so heart-burn was averted!

I had two Quality Street sweets (1 chocolate & the other toffee) and that was enough to put me off attempting any further sweet temptations.

Ok, I'm in. Enough is enough. Going to do the calorie counting thing and no sugar. My weakness is sweets and junk. And probably too much dairy, in the form of tea. I have tea flavoured milk. No sugar though. Will try for a 1000cal deficit but I'm pretty light, super short, but still overweight. The apps moan at me because I end up on very low cals for the day. Hard to stay with it. My climbing has improved so much lately, would love to see how I can climb skinny!

Nothing wrong with a roti.

Triple chip cheese from Johnny's.

That's a classic. Healthy as it gets. Even better chowed sitting on the pavement outside

Not sure if anyone else replied to this, Im lazy to read everything.

Fructose isnt as bad as sucrose and is the main sugar in foods.

Fruit is still good for you so rather keep eating it and avoid other foods that are high in added sugars.

Actually, fructose is worse than glucose. Table sugar (sucrose) is 50% fructose, BTW.

Our livers can metabolize small amounts of fructose no problem but the amount people now get in via the SAD (Standard American Diet) is super-scary and is causing fatty liver disease in kids. Basically Fructose at today's levels has the same effect as alcohol.

Fructose in fruit is OK because you eat the fruit and get the fibre and micros in with it. Fruit juice is pure evil.

In terms of stuff to cut out your diet for optimal health, the order should be:

1. Fructose - mostly found as HFCS in processed foods

2. Sugar - added especially. Check those labels. you'll *** yourself.

3. Refined carbs

4. Omega 6 plant oils

These will ensure the lowest level of inflammation and the weight will come off rapidly and energy levels go up.

I had a moerse big lapse last week. HUGE. It was my birthday week, so there was cake, beer, white flour etc etc... From down 2kg in the beginning of the month to a new high of 110.

Granted, I didn't exercise at all last week, but FFS this just highlights how dangerous an unchecked diet can be. Now I have to start all over again.

The weight will come off very quickly if you cut the carbs again.

Every molecule of glucose stores with it 3 molecules of water. This is why most people that cut carbs see such a dramatic drop in the first week or 4. )It's valid weight loss, so take it! :) )

Of course the inverse will happen when you pig out on carbs, you now store those 3-times water again and your weight jumps big time.

But it'll come off as quickly if you eat LC again.

Been very strict since Tour de Tuli, came back from the Tuli at 81kg (lots of food and G&Ts there!!), 18 August, this morning 75.9kg :)

5kg in 4 weeks, I'm telling you, the 1000cals deficit a day = 1kg per week :)

That plus

the stored water from all those carbs you ate in the race PLUS

the interstitial space that filled up with water during the event and now is draining away.

If you do multi-day events, you might have noticed you pick up 2Kgs or more during the event, even while you're burning much more energy than you're eating. This is the reason.

Its only the milk that has some lactose (also a sugar) that is a bit of a problem.

I have about 6 cups a day, with a splash of milk, no sugar, and that is only 6cals per cup and about 1g of carbs per cup, so suip away! :)

As for the negative effects of caffeine, I couldn't be bothered and also cant comment :)

No negative effects of caffeine. Enjoy...and enjoy the performance benefits! :)

Shitload of sugar in milk, best to avoid.

I think some of you okes have the wrongexpectations.

This is not meant to be a wonder diet that makes you lose weight quickly. It is just a healthier lifestyle.

You will loose weight if you eat less than what you burn, no matter what you eat. If you replace the sugar with tons of other calories of whatever sources you will definitely not lose weight  :D  :D  :D

Sugar (and carbs in general) have a very different effect than the equivalent calories from protein or fat. All about insulin and how it affect energy balance.

It's a complex metabolic environment but the bumper sticker version is correct that cutting carbs is the quickest way to quickly lose weight and keep it off.
