Thanks, sounds ambitious but true, my usual ride has a reasonable amount of climbing (1100m or so in 92km) and to say I am cruising is an understatement  .    Can always drop back to DL if needed I guess

u wont need to. you will end in the top half of your group I reckon.

correct me if I am wrong on Monday.

CL last year had an average of around 35km/h. Not sure where your group ride but in the bunch on that route with lil climb 35 is not a huge push. Just go with the flow for as long as you can and see where it leads :)

Last year the bunch was easy to hang with (which is a problem due to the size of the bunches) up to walkerville hill then starting thinning out a tad

Dont forget seeding last year was a bit of a hit and miss affair... i rode CL last year and when i got over the top of walkerville hill looked back to only see a 6 man or so break away group had formed and we stayed away till the end.

Havent seen any complaints about seeding so far so could be different for this year. wind is also expected to blow quite hard

Very very windy . Has been for last few days. Am also new to road riding and a general lone ride is 25-28 dependent on distance and climbing.

Done 2 races so far ..tour of Durban (awesome really enjoyed it) and sun city a few weeks ago. Both averaged over 32kph.

You will be perfectly fine.

Walkerville climb not the worst climb around the souf and don't mind it to much at all.

Think I will be in cl when I register on Friday .

Wind forecast apprently for sat in walkerville is 34kph and I guarantee that's not a tail wind ... Hang on tight

Cant wait!

(Combination of actual excitement for the wind to play a role and a big part of me being scared of being the one caught out)

This is what happened last year, to VA (actually the whole bunch got a DQ), only the guys dropped that got a time.

Going to register tomorrow, then have a few days to clear this head congestion. At worst I will loose R300 bucks, but I am keen to ride so have to do it.

That 3h03 was probably with several punctures, a crash or two and definitely a few cramps ;)

yeah. Looking at strava now about 6km shorter.

2014-111.2Km 653m

2015-105.4Km 643m

I remember when this was one of the harder races on the calendar. A testing route over 116-117km that went through the reserve. Start and finish at Gold Reef City before moving to the Rand Water pump station. Prior years it was near the Lido.

HEHEHEHEHE yip that was us  . Well all the licensed groups actually but we where the only ones to get a DQ.

The breakaway also didn't get DQ'd. Funny thing was with about a km to go we caught the break and they didn't know we had been DQ'd. Then we got told that if we catch them they will also get DQ. So we sat about 50M behind them watching them sprint for the win.

I also remember now that while we where being naughty the leading tandems which we had caught where on our tail(polite way of saying sucking wheel) so they also got DQ'd with us. The main tandem group didn't know that it had happened and after the race we where telling them and there where a few lucky new tandem riders on the podium.
