quote from somewhere...

"High performance cycling requires a high performance lifestyle"

Agreed.....I am a proper bulletjie........keep my weight constant so I can keep my performance constant......

Barhugger's way of doing it......eat healthy......manageable portions..........ride your bike and repeat.

Why do I do this......well my only main motivator is beer.......eat healthy......ride lots and get thin........then drink beer because you can and that will keep you constant.....it's indeed a lifestyle......a beer lifestyle.......

This what I am talking about.

I get having goal weight etc etc, but surely the thing would be self control. Allow a mince pie or three, a bit of pudding with the family. Why deny such things...assuming of course you like them.

As you said BigBen, its about the long term life style choice and sustainability of it all.

I am accepting that I will pick up one or two kg's over christmas - but during the new year when eating and riding return to normal levels then the those extra kg's will come off by themselves.

Therein lies my problem that I don't have the willpower that you guys seem to have sadly ...... one mince pie and it's over for me so I just keep away

one thing I have learned - beer does not make you fat. I drink more beer than ever and have lost weight. It's the food that counts.

Smaller portions, more regularly, and less/no booze.  A protein shake (not a massbuilder, 100% whey only) can help to placate hunger pangs and stimulate metabolism.

My wife helps a LOT - she won't allow any pre-manufactured rubbish in the house and never has.  Almost everything we eat is made from scratch.

BUT, as I get older (forties), the ONE that stuffs my weight and appetite around is BOOZE.

It's the drinking of beer which leads to midnight Macdonalds binges and next day hangover KFC that is the problem.........

I find that just cycling, whether it is 500km a week or 200km a week, my diet is important in my body management.

As soon as I start running consistently my weight falls off and stays off.... Until I get lazy and revert to just riding my bike.

Beer makes me fat.... 3 beers on friday, 2kg heavier on Sunday...

Some people eat to ride - I ride to eat.... :)

That is the truth!

I pushed up my time on the saddle A LOT recently and rode about 250km/week for 3 months and didn't loose 1kg (NOT ONE), but when I ran for a couple of times earlier this year I lost a couple (stopped and picked them right back up). I must really start running again.

Yeah stay away from the mass builders! So much carbs in them, was 68kg and ballooned to 73kg (having a shake twice a day for a month) even with gym 4 times a week! Switched to GNC 100% Whey Protein and upped gym to 6 times a week (I know it sounds like a lot but it seriously become a lifestyle) and now down to 70kg with body fat percentage of 8.5%

I drink 2 beers every night and 3 to 4 on Sat and Sun. Have not put on a kilo in 2 years.

Riding has stayed the same +- 2 to 4 hours a week. Age 46.

I did a committed 10 weeks at the start of the year - no pizza, bread or beer. I dropped 7 kgs and was pretty happy with that.

Those 7 have come back since then though - lots of drinking (overseas trips to Europe and Aus) and stress (means I often just want something carb rich).

Need to find a bit more balance!

How easy it is to lose weight and/or maintain it probably has more to do with your genetic predisposition than anything else. Two people of identical weights, diets, and exercise habits wont always have identical results. Its a bit unfair to assume that just because you are disciplined enough to maintain a certain lifestyle. Someones else's lack of results can simply be attributed to lack of discipline.

True. I've found trail running really gets strengthens your core and gets the legs toned up nicely!

3 Quarts? I find sometimes I lose weight after drinking beers. Think its dehydration.
