bib preference?

I've struggled with bibs for a few years, never found anything comfortable that would last more than 2hrs. Tried POC this year and my troubles have disappeared. 4+ hrs in the saddle and no chafe or pain. They are also pricey though

I've got a couple of pairs of Assos and I always feel like I'm wearing a man nappy. Look they are well built and great quality and if they work for you then 100% but I can't wear them on my dirt bike as I get some chafe (only pair that does).

Road wise they are good (and very good for loooong rides) but I have to say my Castelli Aero's pip them to the post for comfort and fit. Build wise they are lighter lycra for the summer and the circle logos / transfer pops off after about 3 washes so that is a bit of a kick in the guts. They aren't cheap either but for racing they are the bomb.

Oddly my bibs of choice are from Craft. They have a very sparse, odd shammy that doesn't look like it'd help a 5 year old let alone a 80kg guy but they are all time for trail riding. Any thing over 4 hrs and then there is butt ache, but I think that just my butt, not the shorts!

I'm gonna put in a heavily biased punt for our Anatomic Ergonomic bibs... lekker for road and Mtb and just over R1000. It may not be some fancy European brand and we may not pay 40% import duties to get them here, but apart from being sewn together here, all the materials and padding are in fact imported - so you are basically getting international Technology, but made right here in your back yard

Rode joBerg2c with them, on my hardtail, and had a good laugh at all the fancy pants (excuse the pun) in the bum clinic every am  :whistling:

Anyways, like I said - heavily biased, as you were...

you must have a hard tale!

I have a few different bibs

First Ascent - Fine for shortish rides (2/3hours)

Craft - Performance ones, nice training pairs and comfortable fit

Craft - Elite, my bibs for long days (100km), but avoid the body control ones, the thigh grip is useless and stretches in no time which results in them riding up. Go for something like these http://www.buycycle.co.za/en/apparel/men/bibs-and-shorts-en-2/craft-en/craft-elite-bike-bib-short-black-white.html they are a good buy and have a decent silicone imprinted band to stay put.

Endura - FS260, Recently bought a pair of these in Europe. They are doing pretty well and are very comfortable, not as snug fitting as the Craft but no complaints so far. Not sure if they are available here.

Also started out with a First Ascent way back. Worked well, but the shammois deteriorated very quickly.

Then went onto Specialized. I still have it and it still rides fine, years later.

I then moved onto Giordana. Great bibs! I have a few. Great fit and comfort. Still ride with them often.

I won an Odlo bib. It's a Swiss brand used by the Scott factory racing team. Not bad, but I wasn't overly impressed.

I now ride ftech bibs which is the best I've ridden. I have 4 pairs and won't trade them for anything. Spent 14 hours in them for Trans Baviaans this year with no issues.

I want to upgrade my first accent bib...been riding short distances 20 - 50 km...looking to increase distances to 100 km.

which bib do you use and are they comfortable?

bib - first accent

distances - 20 - 50 km

mtb and road bike

comfortable yes but get a bit rough for long distance

I have a rule of thumb for most bibs...  The more expensive, the better :)

Of the cheap bibs, the South African brand Panda offer a "race trim" bib for R800 or so, and that is good value for money.

First Ascent - I think they SUCK the dogs "goeters".  I have a few pairs and only wear them when I go for a toodle with SWAMBO and/or MiniMe. Chamois gets all flat, chafing, eina!!!

Vermarc Relax - Awesome bib.  Comfortable for longer rides.  I had some before my lay off and had no issues whatsoever!

Panda - Club kit.  Decent bib!  i have lost weight so the bibs don't sit as tight as before.  Still no caffing.  Around 2 hours are comfortable.

Assos - BEST man!  I have the Neo-pro's (the "cheap" ones I know).  i thought the "woord op die straat" was crap, but MAN, I'm now up to 4 pairs and won't buy anything else.  3+ hours are comfortable.

As someone mentioned, remember that your saddle-a$$ combination also plays a big role.  I have tried so many different saddles, but only one works.  O ja, don't forget about chamois cream!!!  It won't help for First Ascent (belive me, I've tried, a LOT) but on the rest it does.

Vermark Relax are my favourite. (road, up to 140 km).  They last forever, but they're not flashy.  Haven't tried the more expensive Vermarks.

Used to have Spez bibs, which were also good, but the sizes tend to change subtly between years, and I struggle to find a size that fits.  Don't last as long as the Vermarks.

Santini - fine for less than 40 km; after that they chafe and pinch me in uncomfortable spots.

Cape Storm / First Ascent - Won't try them again.

Bontrager - Don't recommend them.

I don't smaak Bibs - Always a struggle when I want to take a poef.

I have however tried Anatomic's Ergonomics. I don't think I'll buy others again. Super comfy - I ride them when I know it's gonna be a long day.

how is their sizing ?? ..ie ..need to order smaller or bigger than normal

Hey Mawbs,

The Craft elite products are known be have a "Performance" size curve. Items are made to sit a bit tighter...

The item you are referring to is pretty much standard sizing.

Take a poef before you shower and put them on.

Sies.
