Oh dear.

Clearly you need to get out more and learn about the people who ride bikes around Cape Town. There are not many days you can ride around the Peninsula without being passed by @BillyMTBoy.

Did not know it was possible with a mountain bike. Thanks for educating me. Not from Cape Town, so never heard of Billy before. Will definitely be following him in the future.

As for the link with the backhanded insult. Not going to dignify that with a response.

Perhaps it was because of your condescending tone at not believing when the information was given in response to the question asked of whether it was possible!

Found a ride for the Cape Town MTB ride, my Trusty old steal frame bike converted to CX bike.

Put some 700x35c tyres on and it feels quite good. Might actually enjoy it.

Yeah Moridin, will be tough for late starters if heat and wind picks up!

Was meant to be tongue in the cheek. In retrospect, I agree that it could have been interpreted as condescending.

I just hope this heat gets better, else it is going to be a real hard day for those starting between 9 and 10.

I've done that starting slot voluntarily a couple of times over the last few years, and it is always tough that far back in the field. On a hot day it is hell, on a windy day too. Also, you are out over your normal lunch time and you just feel totally flat until you have something proper to eat. One year we packed sandwiches and we had a stop and a picnic at Smitswinkels. That made the 2nd half much easier. What is much better in the late starting groups, is the vibe and the support from fellow riders. None of the aggressive attitude that you find in the front third of the race. I have the greatest respect for those 5 to 6 hour finishers, they are the ones who really deserve the medal they get!

My start time is 8.36 group 5H [emoji15] I am there to enjoy the ride and the atmosphere...looking forward to it [emoji482] rather than mounting a cooler box onto my bike...I should take my hydration pack and freeze it [emoji3]

I saw the organisers did a route recce this morning, they breezed over the very small road in Fish Hoek...

Also seems the whole "no cyclists" on Chappies thing was an over keen sign maker [emoji14]

The very small road in fish hoek?

We stay in fish hoek every year. Are there road works?

From Kalk bay to Fish Hoek, they have smashed away the concrete road over hanging the railway and are rebuilding it, the road is now moved very close to the mountain, its very tight.

Probably will just have a few hay bales at the entrance to the section.

Yes, there are roadworks from about Kalk Bay harbour Southwards to just before Fish Hoek. It is currently 2 way traffic and not a big issue. The Cycle Tour will go through there without any issues.

Ok cool thanks. So just a continuation of the road works they have been doing for a few years which I must say looks very good every year I come down for the best race ever. If I know the organisers and the municipalities doing the work it will be more than safe on race day.

1 month to go and I have sinus infection again. Seems like every year this time my body tries to foil my plans for a decent time.

Its going to be safe, but have a drive/cycle/walk though there before the race and check out the road, I know which side of the road I am going to be going through there :P (Not near the massive step in the tar)
