Single or Double Chain Ring for the Cape Epic?

We are racing the masters category. Aiming to finish the race first of all and Top 30 result would be nice. For those of you who know the terrain, is a single chain ring bike ok or double would be better?

Thanks

Why is no one asking what speed his drivetrain is? It's probably a fair assumption that it would be an 11 speed.

Jorge, what is your current setup? SRAM or Shimano 11 speed?

Personally, there is a lot of safety in a double ring setup and you can do higher speeds on the flats without spinning your legs off.

Wheel size would make a difference to your gearing choice as well.

34T front ring on a 1x11 29'er is different to the same gearing on a 27.5" bike.

Dual - Why worry about having enough gears? the Epic is not your average bike race in terms of technical riding skills needed, and the terrain can be very varied indeed.

I have on occasion looked across at my partner and envied the 22x36 he has on his 3 x 10... seeing as I run 24 x 36 as granny gear - and believe me - even with a 22, there will still be the odd place you will walk... :)

There are several discussions on the hub about this very topic and race - search and you will find them.

Good luck with your preparation - see you on the line next year.

27.5 with 34/10 -42 is similar to

29 with 32/10-42
