The "mercenaries" that has done a few, are training anyway and pick up entries for next-to-nothing are certainly out there. I can't see a first-timer being ready in less than 2 months, unless the plan is to pick up another teams entry closer to the time.

A better marketing campaign would have been to launch some sort of competition during this year's event and the winning team gets a free ride next year.

We were first timers, were not lying around but definitely not training for an Epic, got an entry exactly 4 weeks before the start.

To be fair it was a 'free' entry and we took it with the thinking that we'll give it a go I mean what did we have to lose? If we didn't finish it would be no train smash ......

In all fairness, if you not serious about riding the Epic, why the hell would you enter the competition in the first place. They are targeting professionals that long for that once in a lifetime opportunity. Not all of us can afford to blow 60k on an entry to the race.

Professionals have nutrition sponsors, and good ones get invited to ride. No sir, this competition is aimed at the over achiever Headboy/girl / CEO type that ling for bragging rights.

the other question is- so you win, yay! Do you then go and put an ad out on the classifieds for a partner, and charge them market price?!

I entered a few years ago as a dare with a friend thinking we would NEEEEVEEER get an entry, well we were one of the "lucky" first 100 when entries opened at 14h00.

Luckily the ZAR exchange rate made it a bit more affordable

What is the T&C's or where can we found it? (Competition started yesterday)

Main question is how is the winner(s) selected? - random selection for hashtag or a panel reviewing photos for quality/'epicness'

You will need to be registered on the Cape Epic list already. Many people enter every year without partners. There are ads everywhere looking for Cape Epic Partners.

It's sponsors like these that make the Epic possible. Enter or don't. Its easy

You need to be on a list to win this competition, or on a list to be pulled in as a partner/substitute?

T&C's?

Thanks for adding the T&C's

Guess me (and a lot of hubbers) are excluded of participating then :(

"5.3 Register / be registered on the official 2016 ABSA Cape Epic waiting list"

Then from

https://www.cape-epic.com/riders/new-riders/how-to-enter/lottery-applications :

"Only unsuccessful lottery applicants can register on the waiting list. Registration for the waiting list closes on 30 June"

[The question on how the winner is going to be selected is not important any more]

That's a crucial bit of information to leave out??? Or are we missing something

Expect a bit of a backlash...
