Yes it's definitely happening!

This was an issue before by a said hubber who is no longer part of this forum.

Some will agree some wont.

I don't !

I know the said hubbers i see many a times of items i want which is scooped by them.

Looks like he is still part of the forum?

Unless you were referring to someone else?

I see Mr Christmas Tree doing it more than anyone else to be honest.

Was looking for a decent set of brakes but Im pretty sure he sits on the classifieds clicking refresh most of the day because he had taken all off the decent ones as soon as they came on.

i really didn't know who this was referring to, thanks upshift for coming forward.

It seems like this is a legit business, and i think my analogy to car dealers at repo auctions stands - if there's bargains to be had, then the pros move in. So essentially, the hub has had such a good reputation for connecting buyers to sellers that the deals are widespread. good enough that it has attracted people who can be a middleman.

My feeling, is that if you are adding value then it's great. the only way that would be possible, is if you had a wide selection of stuff. If you're just flipping things straight back here then it's a bit swak, but really a sign of how the classifieds has grown to be such a big market place. The only way around this would be some sort of ebay/auction model. set a 5 day time limit and the best price wins.

Legit indeed, but I do know what you are all saying. I see it every day as my eyes are wide open. A lady who bought a bike of gumtree is selling it on the hub saying how she put new wheels that cost her a lot of money on the mtb but I saw the bike advertised by someone else before she bought it and its the exact same wheelset so ja unfortunately you also get those types too who will say anything to sell bikes and that leaves a bad taste in my mouth as it makes the 2nd hand market get a bad rap

This just sours the whole classifieds thing for me now sorry to say but ja whatever blows your hair back.

Pretty much what it does for me.

I have built 3 full bikes top to bottom from the classifieds over the years, nowdays I hardly even go in there because all the good deals get snapped up before I see them.

Still people are free to do what they want to, its not like there will be a restriction imposed.

I fall on the side of yes it's sold it belongs to the new owner,

would I do it no,

which is in a way a lie, I own a business I buy goods from suppliers and most of the parts are sold before my driver returns which makes me a hypocrite of sorts.

Makes no sense really because who ever is doing it is "running a business " of their own ,,,but it just feels "wrong" to me it falls in the similar range as selling epic entries for more than you paid JUST BECAUSE YOU WERE lucky to get one

AGAIN MAKES NO SENSE SO MY 2ZIM$ worth

Dips runs to the corner

If you wanted to compare what you do then your driver would need to be picking up stock from private buyers off a platform like gumtree etc.

Buying from suppliers for a better rate than the public gets and then selling off is what every business does pretty much.

It's a free market and whoever is doing the buying is taking a risk that a) the item is in good nick, and b) that someone will buy it. The Hub is a business itself, not a sleepy little village where you know the postman by name. As someone said, willing buyer, willing seller.

I think it's poor form, tbh. If you want to do it, fair and well, but I won't be buying or selling to you.

Have to agree.

If hubbers want to get shafted then the can sell to Cash Converters.

Making money off a forum just isn't on[emoji16][emoji16]

As with many things, you make your own karma. All of these operators would be high volume traders. So in an ideal world, they would have a high volume of ratings. Then it's just an integrity thing, if they have it there would be lots of green, if they don't then anyone can spot the shark. The fact that you're engaging on this issue, whilst the others would be peering in, would have me believe you're in the first category (9 positive ratings and 0 neg back that up).

Your profile pic looks too close to the OPs, nearly troll'ed you with the ad for a set of Avids,  , then I reread your post and you mentioned decent...

There seems to be a lot of this on Gumtree. Recently, whether selling bikes, windsurfers, kites or bookshelves, I get an offer of 30-40% below my asking price in minutes. Always cash. Always, "will pick it up now".

I assume they are buy and sitting on it at "full" price.

They won't entertain the possibility of even an EFT, only cash, so I assume taxman never gets a sniff of this livelihood activity.

This is the part that frustrates me with the classifieds on the hub. The constant stream of ridiculous offers when you advertise things at what I consider to be a fair price. A few recent examples:-

Specialized Epic - advertised for R40k, offered R27k

Brand new X0 groupset - advertised for R9k - I can't afford it, will you sponsor me?

Carbon wheels - advertised for R10k, offered R5k

New Sid XX fork - advertised for R8k, I can only afford R5k

I got irritated with the stupid offer on my Specialized and asked him why he is wasting my time and the reply I got (which seems to indicate he was actually being serious):-

Hi, it's just a offer, do you have a counter offer that I can consider?

I don't see that the bike is sold yet, and you should be open to any offers, regardless how high or low, and state what you are willing to accept.

just my 2c.

Should I be rude to these people, just delete the messages, or politely decline their offers?

hahaha.. have similar as I buy and sell.. my ratings say it all

Had similar recently.  Item priced to sell at good price, got a low ball offer.  So declined and advised that if he had done his research would know that my price is a good price.  Response was that it was no fun without negotiating so good luck with my sale!... So I just ignore and carry on with life... personally I don't see the point of being rude to chancers... it not going to achieve anything!!
