Good luck to the organisers who have to figure out how they are going to handle that and the timing issue

inflatable arches are not allowed at finish lines for this exact reason...interesting how they allowed here...was only inevitable it would happen sometime

Wasn't it during last year's sprit classicstyle that here was issues as well.

So I assume that means for everyone - starting with Steve.

Do they actually have proper officially recorded timing at the 3km banner?

Yes, timing is done with that chip everyone has on their bike as well as camera's in the event of a bike change. That is how they can determine who was in the group at 3km
