If possible do both the Saturday and Sunday rides - these are some excellent trails built and maintained by Dirtopia and it is a pleasure to ride them. You won't regret it.

As an experienced roadie but a complete noob to mountain biking, what route should i enter for?

I should hopefully get my mountain bike this weekend so obviously plenty of time to train and get accustomed to trails.

If you are alright with some switchbacks and some steep climbs, even the 40km. As an experienced roadie, the climbs should be fine for you, but you might have some difficulty in the forest singletrack and berms? Only you can decide that.

Being from the Western Cape, do some of the local trails to guage. Jonkershoek, Durbanville trails, Eden, etc. They all will give you good exposure.

Don't worry - this race allows too many people at once and is horribly congested. You'll just walk the single track like everyone else.

Yes, did the Saturday ride with the Missus and the Sunday with the "manne"

Agree with dee

Go ride the local Tygerberg & Stellenbosch trails to give you an idea of what you can handle, given that it is a mass participation event it won't be more technical than the "average" local trail.

The few sections that are you can just walk with the rest of the riders.
