One of the bad's...

Just got back from Sydney... and once again it brought NZ pricing and lack of variety into perspective.

pricing is one thing... but man NZ could do with the likes of Ikea and Aldi. Aus has had Ikea since the late 70's... you'd think 40yrs would be long enough for NZ to catch on.

I don't know if it is one of the bads....

Although I love reading the word "Ikea"...it reminds me of these...

Hahaha! that is one of the Ikea first world problems.

In fact Kit Kat Australia-New Zealand even takes a dig at Ikea (from the way the spell things, to no words in the instructions).

That said though... Ikea is amazing! Plus they do $1 hot dogs at the cafeteria half way through

Only amazing for people who enjoy assembling/building their own stuff... Brilliant ad by KitKat though...

So on an extremely personal note.

About three years ago I weighed in at 92KGS.

Most of you have met me and know that I am almost legally a midget, so that's a lot of kilo's for a short guy.

I struggled to lose most of the weight but had managed to get down to around 75 kgs. The last few kilo's have really been hanging on for dear life.

As much as I was not that interested in my wife's crazy plan to switch to a predominantly plant based diet, I reluctantly agreed simply because I am lazy and don't want to cook. But the results have actually been quite amazing and profound.

Here is a little graph of my weight loss over the last year as measured by my Garmin scale. Can you guess where the plants came in :)

Honestly speaking, at no point in the last three weeks have I "missed" meat. Its kinda weird. We have been eating fantastically well.

Now, I am not about to grow dreadlocks and start living in a forest or anything and god help me if i become one of those vegan weirdos, but maybe, just maybe, there is something to this....

Plant Based in NZ in winter... you must be rich!

hahahaha! Just kidding!

I'm guessing you have seen What the Health on Netflix. Some of those claims seemed extraordinary. Almost tempted me to try.

About 3 weeks ago I started on the I Quit Sugar program. Whilst is isn't entirely plant based, there are way more veggies than my preexisting diet. Spending $150 on greens per week almost made me cry, hahaha! but I did lose 7kg in 2 weeks.

That all went well until I was invited to French Cafe (apparently NZ's best restaurant, and once voted 4th best in the world)... so that meant diet went out the window. Then there was a weekend away in Sydney... and Aus has Maxibon ice creams (they were my favourite as a kid)... so I fell off the band wagon again. but I'm back on now.

Have you cut out all animal products, or just meat?

The only animal based products I still use are a bit of milk in my coffee in the morning and occasionally some cheese added to a recipe. Like last night we had a really nice roast veg salad that had a small crumbling of feta on the top.

Other than that...no animal products.

The change in my kids has been amazing as well. My daughter asks for broccolini as a snack. There is photographic evidence to prove this! I did not believe my wife when she told me so I forced a photo out of her.

Sure, I reckon if we went to friends house for dinner and they made something with meat we would eat and enjoy it. Nobody wants to be around those preaching and condescending vegan type folks.

I just found the changes quite dramatic and considering that we all discussed this on the group ride , I felt you all deserved some feedback.

Ps. Don't tell my wife she is right....no husband needs that!!! ????

My mom's visa was just approved, online paper type, super fast turn around time. One day basically since they got her passport.

"The number of times you may enter New Zealand using this visa is: Multiple

The last date you may travel to New Zealand is: 25 July 2020

Your visa expires and you must leave New Zealand on or before: See Conditions

The conditions of your visa: This visa expires 3 month(s) after each arrival. Stay subject to grant of entry permission. You must leave before visa expiry or face deportation. The holder shall not undertake employment in NZ. The holder shall not study for more than 3 months in every 12 month period in NZ."

Anyone want something 'small' from SA coming on the 22nd Aug my mom would love to help Hub people out (again) :D
