.....and Rio probably got the games by bribing and cheating as well!  At least France don't have to bribe someone to get Le Tour! :whistling:

I am a fan of Chris Froome, from whatever interactions with fans and interviewers that I have seen I think he's a genuinely decent human being as well. I am a scientist by training and enjoy the release of all this data very much, as well as the speculation around it. I think that his (and sky's) success has been recognising his extraordinary talent for cycling and applying the latest science to maximise his performance. I believe with all my heart that he is clean, That being said, I really miss the old days of riders taking these huge gambles based on how they feel at a particular moments and attacking like someone possessed, telling their bodies pains to just go away, and ending up sometimes capturing the fans with absolutely unbelievable feats on the bike.

Chris will probably win many, many races but will not be so likely to go down in history as a rider who is remembered and revered like Anquetil, Merckx, Hinault, Coppi, Pantani etc.

I dont get why you say that, what makes him a prick?

Im genuinely interested to know.

I was a fan running up to his 1st TDF win. He just became a constant moaner. Bitching about this and that. I feel that he throws his toys whenever things don't go his way. He is much more of a diva than Wiggins can ever dream to be

Just don't like the guy anymore. Maybe prick is a strong word. Maybe he is more of an ass

Fair enough, I have an irrational hate for Cavendish and his constant crying when he doesnt win so I can understand that.

Froome in his first tour just kept quiet about all of the abuse that was hurled in his direction, it seems he had enough of that and started fighting back.

I personally done see it as moaning but everyone is entitled to an opinion.

I still think he is a genuinely nice guy though and seems to be a kind person, I admire those qualities in people who are under that much pressure.

I have to ad here that I don't deny the fact that he is a superb cyclist (funny style and all)

Maybe the bitching is a sky thing, froome, wiggens and cavendish

Taken off Ross Tucker's timeline:

Yes, interesting question that Tucker asks.

From Froomes' book, it seems as if his cycling was pretty unscientific and poorly planned at first. He trained mostly on his own and tried all kinds of weird dietary ideas. Barloworld certainly never saw the potential and never really helped with a solid plan for training and diet. He was just known as the kid that would sooner or later crash, get ill or blow up. Nobody bothered to help him get direction. The underlying Bilharzia is partly also to blame.

Initially, even Sky also regarded him as inconsistent and at one stage got very close to losing his contract with them. But once all the right data, training and support was in place, he could really take off. Another problem he had was that of self confidence. Once that little something clicked to make him believe in the "impossible", it became possible. This happened because later on his job at Sky became to lead Wiggins into the high mountains and he realised that he could not just stay with him, but out-climb him.

About not lighting up the SA cycling scene, Froome was very young still and disorganized at the time. He was still at school or a student at the time. He says that the races were all way too short and too flat for him. He is the guy who can out-suffer everyone else over 250km and over 3 weeks, but cannot beat the sprinters in a flat Argus! That makes sense to me. He also never did well in the Classic Euro 1 day races, possibly for the same reason.

(Just repeating some background from his book, not making a judgement of the validity of it)

The explanations are there for tucker to examine and go figure out the science yet he prefers to fan the flames

Yeah i'm getting tired of his "sitting on the fence" and blowing hot air

He should either wind his neck in or put his money where his mouth and make a concrete commitment.

Its easy for us armchair athletes to look back and pick holes in an athletes past history, and its even easier for a highly qualified professional to do the same. All they can do is look at data which does not tell the whole story, you actual need to be there the whole time, walk in those shoes as there are lots of other daily factors that influence an athletes career / performance...

Winning the TDF, its like the swiss cheese model used in human factors for accidents ... you have to get all the holes to line up to win it
