bent seatpost

Hi guys

So, I was dismantling my bike to pack it and take it along to the seaside, and I realised my SBC seatpost is a little bent.

I can think of quite a number of crashes that might have done it, but more likely it is my fat ass that caused it, because the seatpost is set to the maximum height it can go.

So, do I:

1. Leave it (my wife will approve)

2. Replace it with a 450mm one

3. Replace it with something made from another material (no idea what the SBC one is made of, also no idea what options there are??).

If you still have plans on having children, listen to the above, or otherwise go ahead and you may not have any more. Sounds like your frame might be too small anyway.

Ummm.... you guys have seen the current R/$ ?

Jip. Going to cost you between R 1000 - R1200 depending on where you buy. Not the kind of thing you would want to disclose to the wife. If it is any consolation I bought the layback a while ago. It really is superior quality.

I see you talk about 450mm seat post. You are going to have a hard time finding that in steel locally. Thomson is 410 mm. If you want 450 mm you will have to go carbon.

I have two kids already... :P My height is on the border between medium and large frame.

I haven't found a local store that keeps them on a quick search, but Thomson's site list them at $99.99. Our friend that held the FM job for the weekend says don't worry, we buy in R, not $...

What do you weigh?

 90kg

What diameter does your bike take? I have a 30.9mm 410 Thompson layback sitting in my garage...

I think it is 31.6, but I will double check. Will PM you, thank you very much.

Does is have to be a Thompson? There are so many other capable brands out there for a quarter of the price.

Ryder, Momsen,SBC, Elite. Even Easton will be cheaper.

If you want to buy once, Thomson is the way. Had a 110kg mate riding a 27.2 at full extension for 2 years, not even a niggle.

Try that with any other brand. He did, and went through at least 4 before the Thomson.

What about the Rapide Control Tower?

I have a Rapid Rizer handle bar,if the Contol Stick seatpost is of similar quality you will have no problems.

Alternatively there are other cheap options,I have owned both Giant and Ryder seatpost that performed flawlesly and cost less than R300.

On my XTC I currently have a PRO components KORYAK seatpost that is stil doing well.I am also roundabout 90kg.
