So been running Kodi (17) from my macbook pro for the last 2 weeks, using up our last data on our Telkom LTE contract that came to and end yesterday, but data still available until it runs out.

Fibre is being hooked up on Thursday and wireless access point installed on Friday. Uncapped 50Mbps (up/down) line.

I want my laptop back so looking to get a media player / tv box, but really somewhat bamboozled by the array of options available.

I am told the Mxq Pro 4k box is really good value for money. Looking to spend 1-1.5k

Any suggestions based on experience?

I bought my MXQ Pro from this link above. Ordered in the morning and was in my hands just after lunch.

So far, no issues with it... I wouldnt know what issues to experience as its my first android box.

I did play around last night after following some instructions from a youtube video on how to reduce buffering. I sometimes get buffering on some shows, not all

25up and 25 down fibre line.

Android box is hard wired and when doing a speed test, Ive got a 3ms Ping and no speed loss.

This is why I got a bit confused with the buffering story and tried what this dude recommended.

Ours running off wifi so am getting some speed loss, but still around 25 doing a speed test next to the box (we have 50 up/down fiber).

Plugged in I'll get my purchased 50 - no doubt.

Mxq is really good value for money...

Also upgraded to Kodi 17 the other night and runs perfectly against advice on the internet that you need 2GB of RAM.

Some shows do however buffer.

What did the dude recommend?

Can you paste a link - I know I can go look for one, but whatever advice you followed obviously worked...

Another mate of mine led me to this video, this is the instruction that I followed...

Seems to be pretty stable but then again, I only did it when I got home form the office last night and havent done much viewing.

Some questions: I ran Sportsdevil over the weekend to try to watch some rugby. Most streams would not run and even those that did had such bad resolution that it was impossible to identify players. Same for the Sevens.

Thing is, movies and some series are fine with almost HD quality. And I had the strange phenomenon of streams just looping.

I can't answer any questions about details regarding the line yet as it was on my brother's farm but will find out the details from him. We did a speed test on his phone (using the same router) and it was about 2Mb/s at the time.

Anybody else experienced this or got any suggestions?

You need high and consistent quality line speed to watch IPTV (live tv) and is probably being watched by many users which contributes to the inconsistent experience.

The original stream quality may not be great either.

For best results use a wired connection and maybe buy a day pass from one of the paid IPTV services.

It's about the only time where a change of buffer settings MAY (unlikely if you have slow connection <10Mbs) make a difference.

The looping is probably your buffer replaying as it's full (or not quite) and the data stream is either too slow or is being interrupted and not overwriting the data contained in the buffer..

It's not quite the same as streaming a file from a server; many more variables to take into account.

with regards to illegal sports streams..9/10 times they are poor because they are hacks with low bandwidth for the number of users etc etc. If sports watching is something you would consider as a requirement when streaming then I would recommend paying for one of the streaming services where they can guarantee upload speeds on their side

I watched both Tirenno-Adriatico and Paris-Nice on my phone, through a YouTube live feed, and also on a 2Mbps ADSL line - was good enough to see the race numbers on the rider's backs - and no commentary. The YouTube feed was about 2km behind DStv.

I'm not worried about the rugby and football shown live, as I was hardly watching on DStv anyway.

They are on back order though...

You can get the 1GB version for less from the same site. So far no issues with it
