Can anyone recommend somebody in Cape Town who can service campagnolo properly? I have a lovely road bike in need of a good campagnolo mechanic.

Try Cycle Lab Tokai. Ask Dylan.

Thats like finding a needle in a haystack. Over the years i've learn't to do all campy upgrades, service and repairs myself.

What's not working and why do you think it needs a service ?

Unfortunately I am not the sort of person who can fix my own bike ... utterly stupid on that front! The bike has old campag record on it, and the smaller gears always give problems - they don't change smoothly, and seem to rub/scratch. I have asked a few people to sort it out, and nobody has managed to do so yet.

The answer 'don't use the small gears' also doesn't work... I need my granny gears, more so than I need the biggest gears!

Could be your shifter that needs a rebuild did both mine about 3 years ago. It's a fairly simple process if you take it slow and keep your parts in order there are 50 of the little buggers. There are good step by step videos on youtube.

Desi seeing that you live in Durbanville take your bike to Lourens Calitz in Durban Rd at Cycle Centre.

His shop is next to Jetline media opposite Edward street. 021 8244041

I am riding Super Record 11spd and he gets my gearing spot on.

Just tell him that Lloyd referred you.

That's actually what I suspect, Spoke, and I am even happy to buy a new shifter, but I need someone who knows what they are talking about to tell me what needs to be done/replaced! I have a beauty of a bike that I never ride because the gears irritate me so much.

Campy is designed to be rebuilt. Every little bit can be ordered from them. I don't think you can wear out a set of Campy shifters so badly in a single lifetime that they cannot be rebuilt to near new condition.

While I'm thinking of bad shifting, make sure all the other (much more likely) gremlins have been checked and sorted before taking your shifters apart. I'm talking of things like bad cable inners and outers, bent derailleur hanger, loose derailleur and so on.
