WOW...

“Nationally, we lose R306 billion per year due to road crashes. This tragedy should serve as a wake-up call to the city and province to radically re-think how it deals with what is now a crisis,” said Macpherson.

well considering it was a high performance VW involved in the accident, VW are clearly playing the sensitivity card  so its no surprise MR MB has been shown the door.

OK, he was out of line and posted an extremely insensitive 'joke' on social media.

But true to form, the twitter lynch mob has swung into action and - as always - are now behaving abominably themselves (I'm sure the irony wooshes straight over their heads).

The guy is now receiving death threats. WTF is the matter with the human race?

Minter-Brown said the backlash had been overwhelming and that social media users were "ruining" his life.

"I am surprised by how far this has gone. Right now, it feels like there is more ill feeling aimed at me than the driver of the car.

"I had a very bizarre death threat at 4am yesterday when I got a phone call to say that there is ambulance outside waiting for me. I don't know what to make of it and I have received the most vitriolic stuff in my inbox on Facebook.

East Coast Radio producer sacked

Durban – Popular KwaZulu-Natal station East Coast Radio has sacked its producer and columnist Kevin Minter-Brown.

The veteran Durban radio producer found himself in hot water over an "insensitive" Facebook post commenting on the death of two cyclists at the weekend.

In a statement ECR said: “In light of the insensitive and offensive comments made by contractor, Kevin Minter-Brown, on his personal Facebook page following the tragic deaths of two cyclists on the M4 Ruth First Highway on February 7 2016, East Coast Radio has taken the decision to terminate Minter-Brown’s contract with immediate effect.

“This is a difficult time for the family and friends of cyclists, Jared Dwyer and Richard da Silva, and East Coast Radio would like to humbly apologise for Minter-Brown’s callous remarks.”

The East Coast Radio jock and Sunday Tribune columnist posted a comment in jest on Monday, suggesting that a running club be started on the N3, after it emerged that cycling on the M4, the scene of the weekend tragedy, was in fact illegal.

Da Silva and Dwyer were hit by an allegedly drunk driver while on a training ride on Sunday morning.

"I'm thinking of starting a running club… I know there's plenty of other roads, but I think if there is an opportunity to put us directly in harms way, then why not?[sic]" Minter-Brown said.

He removed the post shortly afterwards and apologised

Wow - that's very swift.  I wonder if there'll be comeback a la Gareth Cliff and the Purple People.

Maybe being local radio made the difference, that much closer to the people affected.

Well holy shibbles that is ridiculous. Have we gotten that sensitive as a society that if someone makes a blapse they must be fired and dumped by sponsors?

Fark me what a bunch of wet pantied suits.

Sure what he said was dumbass and insensitive but fired? Jeeez.

It was always going to go that way once he was associated with ECR and VW.

Social media is not a free for all where you can say anything you want without consequence.

If you say something that can bring an institution into disrepute then its grounds for dismissal.

I thought the guy was a chop but didnt expect him to get fired for it.

Agree 100%. We might not like the mob mentality on social media but we all & especially celebrities (term very loosely used in this case) should wisen up to the fact the social media is not an isolated consequence free world.

If you feel it is important to send your opinions and lame jokes out to the wide world on each and every controversial subject then be be prepared for the consequences.
