More proof that they need a physical barrier on cycle lanes.

Hope the rider gets well soon...

Yup, that's the only way it will work in this place!

Speedy recovery to the rider.

Eishhh! Heal up quick dude! Hopefully you still make it to the Argus if you're riding that!

Can only guess that the driver was texting, if he managed to take the cyclist out in the cycle lane!

I think that is the problem, its a cycling lane but its just painted differently to the other lanes around it and Im sure people duck into them to overtake.

I always looked at those lanes in Durban and wondered if cars stay out of them.

The rider is fine got a few bruises, went for a x-ray at the hospital, he is a friend of mine, he is abit shaken up as he was in the cycle lane, wonder what the drivers are going to say now as they have been running down cyclists in the paper's.

Shot for letting us know Boobear! Glad to hear he is OK!

Don't expect much sympathetic comment from the anti biking brigade. They are so narrow minded they will refuse to change their opinion despite facts or evidence to the contrary as it means they will need to give up on their belief that the road belongs to them!

i have always thought that cyclists should ride that circuit in reverse so you can see what is coming.

Mawbs, it will never EVER be safer to ride against traffic. It's a myth that has been dispelled over and over many times! I've listed the reasons on the other Durban cyclists passing away thread already! PLEASE DO NOT RIDE AGAINST TRAFFIC OR ENCOURAGE ANYONE TO DO THIS, however functional it may be for running!

personally i always ride on pavement and mostly against traffic flow so i can see, but then im not a roadie so ill take your word for it. Certainly something needs to be done for the roadie guys.

For runners this can work. You can dive into the bushes or off the road if you see a car coming, as you don't have much momentum.

For bikes it cannot work. If you are doing 40 to 50 km/hour in a bunch and cars doing 100 kays coming from the front, it will not end well.

The riding on the wrong side story, that we will leave for tomorrow......[emoji1]

But your other point, I'm a roadie that does a bit of off roading. Some time ago I was riding on a path next to the road(same direction as the cars). It was a dirt path and about 2 metres from the curb. Rush hour traffic. Next second a taxi comes racing passed me almost hitting me with his mirror. He was riding half on the road and half on the dirt passing all the slow moving cars. So even on the pavements we not safe.
