How does this race compare to the 94.7 race when it comes to climbing?. I have entered and completed 03 x 94.7 races ( one on the old route and 02 on the new route).

It will be my first Emperors Classic..

Almost as flat as a pancake, but with a few bumps along the way.

About 30% of the 947 total climbing.

I drove on the section next to the railway today. I already made contact with ASG and they are going to have a look at the road today.

They did take a look on Friday, and Yaldwin/Taljaard/Jones is now in play.

Route has just been changed. Will go onto Yaldwin, left into Taljaard and then left into Jones and up the hill to a Emporers end.

Start times changed to 6:15 for the 98 km and 7:46 for the 40 km.

The Emperors Palace Classic, which takes place on 9 and 10 April this year, will start and finish at the same spot as previous editions in Jones Road.

The event organisation is rerouting the final 5km as a result of road works before what was going to be the final right turn on the route into Griffiths Road. Instead the route is doing a right turn from Jet Park into Yaldwin Road, followed by a left into Taljaard Road and another left into the finishing chute in Jones Road.

The 98km race will start at 06h15 while the 40km start moves forward from 08h30 to 07h46.

To visit the new on-line experience which we've created for the event, go to www.emperorsclassic.co.za

Billed as “the race of dreams”, the event’s offering is stunning and includes both road riders and mountain bikers.

The racing starts with the 20km and 40km MTB races on the Saturday, followed by the 40km and 98km road races the following day.

The road races start at 06h15 (98km) and 07h46 (40km) respectively on Sunday while the MTB event starts at 08h00 on Saturday.

The Sunday offering includes the ever-popular Emperors Palace Kids Classic, which caters for youngsters aged 3-5 and 6-8 and the Pro Touch Circuit Spectacular will once again bring the curtain down on the weekend’s racing programme.

The Pro Touch Circuit Spectacular is open for entries to all CSA racing categories (Elite men and Ladies, Juniors, under 16 boys and girls as well as Vets 30+, Vets 40+ and Vets 50+).

The Emperors Palace Classic sees more than 7000 cyclists converge annually on the East Rand entertainment complex adjacent to OR Tambo International Airport.

The road race has become known as fast and exciting while the mountain-bike challenge is an absolute blast inside the grounds of OR Tambo International Airport.

Just trying to get my bearings here, will we then go past the Kempton railway lines toward the finish?

No, at Lido Electrical Traffic light you will turn right as far as I understand, then past the Jetpark dam.
