Captain Fastbastard Mayhem Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 130grms difference per set, Wide Lightnings dwarf the AC Race in durability and value for moneyAnd the WL's aren't exactly hefty either. Very light for what they are.
CAAD4 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 WTB Frequency (choose your width i19, i23, i25) plus Hope hubs for the best allround wheelset in terms of weight, strength durability and price.Yoda spoken has. Better than Swiss cheese any day....
Jewbacca Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I'm with Robodog I found AM classic to be made of cheese. WTB KOM or Frequency on Hopes or DT 240s... I have the i23 KOMs on some 240s on the 29er and they are amazing. The trail bike is Hope and frequency... The WTB rims hold a bead and seat with ease. Proper trouble free 'fit and forget' kit.
BrandonF_ Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 And the WL's aren't exactly hefty either. Very light for what they are.1585grms per set! And you cannot compare these with previous gen. AC's,..much, much stronger

Another vote for WTB.. I have the i19 and though slightly Heavier & narrower than Crests they are much stronger. The i23 are nice and wide and must be pretty bomb proof. My Settup is:I ride i19 Rims, Dark horse hubs, DButted Pillar spokes, Brass nipples.. Handbuilt 3cross with high spoke tension. They come in around 1600g...Will set you back about R5000 -R5500 I love jumps and technical singletrack.. and live in a Rock infested area. I have had them for almost two years now and though I bent the front wheel in a big crash I managed to true it again and have since put on 350km trouble free miles.. the back has a couple of dings but still run true. Im very happy. The KOM's are slightly wider.. If you would consider a custom build, these below are quite nice ingredients to use as foundation. http://www.rapide.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Rapide-Ultralight-Pro-Pair-150x150.jpg Rapidé Ultralight PRO Hub Set Cassette Type: Shimano/SRAM ZAR 1,937.72 ZAR 1,937.72 (ex. tax) × http://www.rapide.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Alpina-Bladed-Spoke-650-v2-150x150.jpg Alpina Bladed Double Butted Spokes Spoke Length: 292 ZAR 10.52 ZAR 673.12 (ex. tax) × http://www.rapide.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Brass-Nipples-150x150.jpg Rapidé Brass Spoke Nipples Color: SIlver ZAR 78.07 ZAR 156.14 (ex. tax)

I bought a set in Jan last year.R4000 to my door.Built them up on Hope hubs with Wheelsmith spokes.I've done:1x Trans Karoo, 1 x 100 Miler, 2 x 24Hr races, various other shorter events.8000km of traning. Couldn't be happier. Please give info. Where to buy ect.
mtbDobby Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 So I have bought the wide lightnings and after my 1st ride, wow, I cannot say that I noticed the extra stiffness but the comfort of the ride was awesome and they where definitely "faster" in feel and some of my sections on strava. So after one ride I am happy (I was on the factory Syncros wheelset that comes on the scott spark 910)
