No I would go ape **** as well.

This is my commute route they are screwing with.

I need to cycle here after they are gone off to do what ever. I need to face the drivers they piss off and I have to cycle where they damage the image of cycling (that if I might add is already in a very bad state)

And yes I am not the perfect law abiding citizen, but if someone calls me on my mistake I am not going to tell them to **** off.

You should have hauled out your base ball bat and moered his bike stukkend.

Then at least people might have some justification for lecturing you.

So far you are on the receiving end of lectures for doing nothing wrong.

I often cycle at Jonkershoek after work. I drive up that lovely road with my bike on the rack and on each occasion I see cyclists cycling 2 abreast on a narrow and twisty road. Instead of slinging abuse at them I simply slow down and pass when its safe. Why spoil fellow riders' rides with an overly aggressive reaction when I can greet them in a civil fashion at the gate and ask them nicely to be careful as other motorists don't always share my tolerant views. While I cannot condone they way they reacted, perhaps we all just need to have a slightly more relaxed attitude and try to get along. I have chatted to some of the Exxaro riders after races and they are generally good hard working guys that loves riding their bikes.

Agreed. We as South Africans find it very hard to be told when we are in the wrong. So hard that when someone does it, rather than accepting you were the wrong, we go on a crusade about the person that realized our mistake and be sure to let him know that he's not perfect, etc. Strong sense of entitlement, arrogance and little respect for the law...

C'mon dude, you are a cyclist and a motorist and trying to convince us that you have never broken a law ???? So you've never not stopped at a stop street. Never skipped a red robot. That is in car or on bike. Never driven without a seatbelt, never spoken on your phone while driving...................Amazing !!

Because if you have never broken the law, then point figures. And I'm sure you've told people to f.off before.

Ag BS man. He was not trying to convince us that he has never broken the law, nor is he claiming to be a saint. The guys did something wrong and they must take responsibility. Simple.

Whats this nonsense of giving the OP uphill for pointing this out? His post was not rude or aggressive.

CL/C100 and many other clubs/teams are often lambasted for doing the exact same thing. It is this kind of negative coverage on the Hub and other social media that should act as deterrent for this tupe of behaviour.

As for the statement that if you have broken the law ONCE you cannot point anything out, you know thats a *** statement. That means that YOU can have no opinion on Taxi's, drunk drivers that kill cyclists, corruption, murder.... because surely you have gotten a speeding fine before.

These riders should not have skipped the light, then they should definately not have sworn at somebody while wearing sponsors kit. They made other peoples names gat.

Ja, not so much hey.

It is not "what" that is being said but rather the manner in which it was being done. The OP points out people that have done wrong but also admits that he is not "perfect"...

So now the OP is sending letters to the sponsors...with which he hopes to achieve what?

Is he saying then that because I don't wear a sponsors logo on my shirt I am free to do whatever I want? That the rules only apply to those that can be identified? Are they the only ones that should set an example?

I would have given the OP my vote if the purpose of his rant was to educate and inform on the risks and how to do it safely...but that was not his intention now was it?

Exactely.  It amazes me that when someone comes on to the hub and points out bad behavior by cyclists, he get's flamed for it.  It's not him that skipped a robot, it's not him that sweared at a motorist.  Exarro riders are sponsored riders and therefore they have a certain responsibility to fulfill.  Even if they are development riders they still have to set an example to other cyclists, which they are not doing.

Our names (me and you) are being made GAT by cyclists in sponsored kit, that is the bottom of it

It was about his intention I guess.

And, dare I say it, there could be a perceived race factor by the exxaro riders: A white man telling a black man what to do...

C'mon, this is South Africa, you MUST factor that in.

I have been in a similar situation before and I realised there is a big difference between education and lecturing in South Africa.

As Saffers we are prone to lecture as opposed to educate and hence the perceived opinions tat we carry a chip on our shoulders.

Hey, as Saffers this is what we used too: being lectured. I guess we are all just gatvol of it.

So now the OP is sending letters to the sponsors...with which he hopes to achieve what? So that they can educate the riders to in the future be mindful of the law, respect the name the proudly wear on their shirts, safety for all future cyclists commuting on that route - because like it or not, motorists get irritated when we as cyclists demand respect on the road, but fail to respect the rules of the road in return.

Is he saying then that because I don't wear a sponsors logo on my shirt I am free to do whatever I want? That the rules only apply to those that can be identified? Are they the only ones that should set an example? No. The point. You missed it. I did not read that in the OP.

I would have given the OP my vote if the purpose of his rant was to educate and inform on the risks and how to do it safely...but that was not his intention now was it? Well, I thought it was to inform, educate and rant. Inform us and rant here, but he mentioned that wrote letters to Exxaro before posting here, hence the inform/educate part to them as well.

Strange how you try to differentiate between technicalities of "lecturing" vs "educating", but is completely fine with the fact that the exxaro riders told OP to f-off when he pointed out that the traffic laws apply to them as well.

Where you there when they told him to get lost?

Point it is: the manner in which it was done could have induced the relevant result.

No, I am not saying it was the right response. What I am saying is that a coin has two sides.

Just ask Oscar.

My point is simply this: This is South Africa. You should know by now that how you say things can get you a free f'off.

And again: If the hope is to educate, then one should seriously consider the manner in which it will be perceived.

Anyway...I am out of here. Good luck with your education of cyclist safety.

Maybe he said "funk off", which is slang for thank you :whistling:

Like someone said, this thread should really go down on Friday. And by then I would also like to hear the other side and the third side, the truth

And like another person said, we don't like being told what to do, including me. I know, it's wrong and I'm working on it. It just feels like preaching and I don't like being preached to.

I probably would've let it go and try to ride more carefully around them. But the OP probably did the right thing. Different strokes for different people I guess.
