Wish there was student discount on these races

You and me both. With the race entry, supplements and travel cost and sometimes even accommodation costs, it makes things difficult for us students

WOW R355 is pretty expensive to do a single stage race

Isn't it R320? Either way, well worth it. It is tough and has a lekker vibe. We are doing the 75km mtb and the next day the short trail run.

Did anyone do the 20km last year?

Want to find out for a beginner friend what type of elevation and difficulty to expect?

I did, nice route around the orchards and dam, not very technical.

But a big jump in difficulty from the 20km to the 40km.  I rode their 45km for years until I've had enough of the hike up that rocky ascent each year.

Entered the 75km again. Last year was chatting to a guy on the start. Kept on shaking his head when I said it's my first. Entered without checking properly what this race was about. Never ridden that far and that much elevation. A weekend warrior who did some decent riding but nothing significant.

Well I finished in 5.5 hours. Hardest thing I've done at that stage. Lost 1 bottle after 10kms. Walked some of the steep ascents. Luckily didn't cramp.

A real tester of a race.

This time I will conquer it proper. Much better prepared

The 75k is big day out, for me anyway, but its what one could or should expect from a 'real' mtb marathon event, the likes of Sabie or Barberton, and one of the best local GP ones imho.

And for me finishing strong is all about pace, albeit a snails pace. And the thought of that recovery large choc milkshake from the Wimpy on the road home.

2 weeks to go and the nerves are slowly starting to surface... have I done enough training... I don't think so.

On a different note. What kind of solid snacks do you guys take with for the marathon? I seldom take solid snacks with on a ride. However, for this one I feel it is definitely necessary.

Does anyone have any input about the racefood fastbars?

Will be there for the 35km this year , did the 40 last year and was planning to do the long one but dislocated shoulder late last year and since then mainly been on road bike. So will do the 35 km again and look at the 75km next year.

Will be treated in the FNB tent again this year so looking forward to the race.

Went Over the bars today and came down hard after my chain came of just before I wanted to put power down while standing.

E few ribs are quite tender but will hopefully be there in two weeks.
