Rietvlei Trails (farm not dam!)

So after being a bit disparaging about Rietvlei Trails here in the south of Jobeg late last year when to be fair they were in transition from one trail builder to another I decided to give them another chance. An invitation from Dion the new incumbent and a free voucher of course also helped to make up my mind

I was pleasantly surprised to find them not only well maintained (despite the rain which I would imagine makes the growth around the trails and falling trees that have always plagued this trail difficult to keep up with) but also a lot of changes have been made. From the multitude of small bridges, new water crossing options for the more adventurous not wanting to use the metal bridges to newly cut trails it was an absolute pleasure compared to my previous visit

There is still blue available to the technical skilled among us (myself not included) but the green would be great for most mountainbikers out to have a good time, and at a cost of a mere 30ZA rondts, yes you read correctly ONLY 30ZA rondts, it is a must visit! there is still the yellow for youngsters and other recreational riders so fun for the whole family.

Dion can be found if not at the trailhead then somewhere along the course, Aussie looking hat on, busy working but available for a chat at any time.

They are looking at an electronic method of payment as well that will make things even more efficient in the future.

In short I'll be back and pay my own good money to ride there

Thanks for the update NSBB. With all the upcoming holidays was thinking about how it's been a long time since I've been there. Since the bikejacking incident - I haven't been back. Is that building site running alongside now sorted out - do you know?

I am glad they doing those trails justice as they were honestly not great the last time I rode there.

Have to agree, the new sections are really cool and add some good variety to the routes.

Great Post NSBB.

I agree 100%

Went for a ride there 3 weeks ago, really enjoyed it and you can definitely see they have made improvements including the new river crossing.

Just find that little 'up' out of the first one tricky as well as the 'drop in' to the second one ..... it was a bit wet yesterday though so I'm saying that's why

Very tricky.

Sand was very soft and hardly any grip going down and going out the other side
