Hi Guys

I am new too the cycling world, I recently just had my mtb serviced and wanted to start using it.

However, I have a problem getting it Round.

I own a Renault Sandero stepway.

It already has roof rails but I still need to buy the bike rack and cross bars.

I popped into Thule and found them way to expensive for me.

What are the other alternatives I could purchase?

Look at secondhand roofracks, the ones that fit onto rails you regularly and then just get the bike rack as well, every now and then options come along. give gumtree also a try.

I would also recommend looking at secondhand racks.Ultarnitively if you have a towbar look into towbar mounted racks or you can also look at one that clips onto the bootlid of youre hatchback.9c4d8c6ff06061e015af4056115b3493.jpg

IMO roofracks are the way to go, especially the Thule ones. If you do some research to figure out exactly what you need to fit your car and then keep an eye on the classifieds you will get a good deal sooner or later.

However, seems you are in a bit of a hurry so the rear mounted clip on/strap on type might be a quicker and cheaper solution.

I went towbar mounted purely because I am forgetful. It will just be a matter of time before I hear the sound of my bikes being ripped off the roof...

^^This.

It's far safer having them on the back vs on the top. At least you can still see them through the rearview.

Me, I'm going to have one of these fabricated when I have the cash and have upgraded my car. Far easier to stow the bikes, and it won't cost the earth.

They are practical as long as you don't forget that they are there with your bike on top! Seen many heartbreaks (read bike breaks) form this. Then again, I've also seen the odd towbar mounted bikes being reversed into a tree. Unfortunately I was the odd one!

I just bought a set of Holdfast racks off Gumtree and am very happy with the fit and quality. Previous owner used them with a Thule bike carrier, till he got a new car. Can't comment on the carrier bit myself as I'm using a towbar mount for my bike.

If your bike has QR or 15mm through-axle on the front fork, Holdfast sells a bracket that can be bolted onto roofrack crossbars. Then you take the front wheel off and mount the fork onto the bracket.

all you need to buy is the crossbars, adapters to fit them to your cars roof rails and the bike mounts.

Fit the second crossbar so that the rear wheel rests on it and use a tiedown strap to secure it.
