This is one of those sad cases, shoot the dog, get in ***, don't shoot the dog it's kills more things and get in ***.

It's sad because everybody has to answer to everybody else who all have 20/20 hindsight vision and a Twitter account these days.

Of course things could have been done better, they always can once it's already happened.

Only one day to go, then this thread can assume a life on it's own.  I will think of something stupid to say while I am sleeping.

Escapee beat you to it ;)

Good luck coming up with something more stupid than what has already been said. Quite a challenge you have set for yourself.

B.t.w. Rabies has a 100% mortality rate. (Ebola kills between 40 and 70%) Some years ago there was hope that a KZN man who contracted rabies would pull through, but he did not. If you get immunized early enough you have a good chance of survival, but once you have it, you will die the most horrible and slow death imaginable, just about 100% sure. Feral dogs don't go to the vet or the SPCA for their yearly shots. Just saying.

Mus be a safe place to ride ...imagine how bike jackers will be dealt with , f@#& yeah , only days ago I read how a 2 year old was torn out of his father's arms by 2 dogs and killed whilst the father hit the dogs with bricks ..nothing could stop them . so now imagine this happened at Van Gaalens .could you imagine ?? It would have been national news child bitten dead whilst on picnic ... could you imagine ?? By reading the response from Van Gaalens and reading the comments of people who were not even there ......yes I agree its a tough one that the public witnessed it and especially a child but how are the parents going to deal with something more serious like if their child witness a person being shot or dying in a car accident which they probably have seen a hundred times in movies or on television..... I believe the owner refused to take a chance with his guests saftey and acted in order to ensure his guests saftey ..in thei report the dog / dogs were responsible for killing more than a dozen livestock killed goats and attacked sheep.. well then that dog could easliy take a child or small adult down if it attacked ., unfortunate incident I agree

but I say well done to the owner at Van Gaalens

I will be riding there

p.s. leave your dogs at home

Are you still on the fence

I'll nibble on your bait,,,

I said HKGK,,,there will be fall out no matter what the 10 pages of the hub says

I asked what breed of dog,,,to establish size and possible danger posed

I said game changer because things like this go viral for a week and fade out,,but as the saying goes,,,,,,

" you shag one sheep and you will always be known as,,,,,"

I heard many versions of the story by now, I know Eric HE has a few animals of his own, including a few dogs, old dogs he has had for years and clearly they are loved and well taken care of. I don't take him for a guy just to walk up to an animal and shoot it just because, would I have handled it differently yes, as said above all good points in retrospect it is always easier. *** position to be in dammed if you do dammed if you don't

If I was there with my girls and I saw Eric walking with a shotgun I sure as **** would have headed in the other direction with my kids knowing he wouldn't be carrying it for effect as mentioned he knows the law so he would have thought his actions through,

After years of riding at VG there are many wild dogs and I have to say I trust what he has done he thought it was essential for the customers safety and his animals, not just the farm animals but keep in mind domestic dogs normally come off second best against a pack of "hunters" so no fence sitting it's just NOT THAT SIMPLE.
