OMF, i just saw this and took a look.

Too true and quite sad.

Its been going on for ages and raised a few times.

The same thing happens on every community type classifieds section.

Either you dont mind it and carry on or you just dont buy from them, choice is entirely up to the buyer.

I can relate to some of the reports here.

Happened to me a year or two back. Post went up for a set of Reynolds wheels (my bike was originally specced with these wheels)

Seller had cellphone number listed, so I phoned him (was within 5 minutes of advert going up) Seller tells me, sorry Hubber XYZ was faster than you, and is going to take the wheels.

I immediately contacted hubber XYZ, a known wheeler and dealer on the thebikehub, asking him to rather let me purchase the wheelset. (at this stage he did not even make a payment on the wheels yet, nevermind take possession of them)

His short reply was "No, if you want them you can have them at R???.??" (at least 50% more than the original seller advertised it at) No amount of reasoning with him could sway him, so I just let slide.

Unfortunately this was before the Rating System was in place.

So yes, there are some schysters out there, bucking the system a bit.

Slightly off topic (And I know that it has been discussed before)

The sticky adds from AutoStyle under the Computers, GPS & HRM are painful to read and remind me of 3rd rate scams on Gumtree:

WE AGENTS GARMIN & THULE. 7 DAYS JHB

GARMIN, THULE, BIKE RACKS, ACCESSORIES, 7 DAY KZN

It's a small thing but can't those posts be edited so that they look a bit more professional?

Not really, the big difference is on bikehub the sellers can duck and dive, delete ads that go pear shaped in the comments then relist 5 mins later, ask sellers to delete old ads(or wait till they are) before they resell the item etc.

Most forums the for sale ads are like normal threads, you can't delete them, edit them after fact, you can't hide and if you try a fast one, making a habit of buying and reselling in the classifieds solely with the intent to profit, you will get roasted.

Anyway I think most people on bikehub appreciate the community vibe, that's why they are here day in day out and they do not take it lightly when people abuse/take advantage of the community. This is a holy place, go work harder at your day job rather than rape the classifieds, have some fsking integrity.

I don't even have a bone to pick with any of these profiteerers, it just makes me a bit sick seeing it happen, it feels wrong.
