Me and my 16 year old son are doing the 45km. Will be a bit of suffering for me with the amount of climbing that awaits.

My wife and 14 year old son are doing the 30km.

Excellent, much better weather than last year. 45km was a challenge if you went at it hard, which I tried to do but in the end it took me a little over 2 hours to finish. I've done the Spur Classic since 2011 (Lourensford, then Wannabees trails) but it is much better at the current venue. Of course it does help that I can get up at 8:15 and still be in time for the start :D

My 3 year old daughter enjoyed her first bike event on the 500m.

Enjoyed my day also. I came in at 3h09 (yes, I know I am slow), and my son at 2h12.

I had a mighty tumble on the off camber farm jeep track that runs just above the R44 from Klapmutskop when my front wheel hit a soft patch of dirt. When I finished I discovered that my iPhone was missing. After the race I went back there, and found the phone still lying there on the ground.

Note to self: don't be in a hurry to get racing again after a tumble. First make sure you still have all your stuff.

The organisers pulled a nasty one also. As you crest that one hill on the mountain, you can see the water station, but then you turn left onto another long stretch of ST on the mountain before finally hitting the station.

Just a note to the organisers: the batching was really bad. 8 of the top 10 came from the B batch.

Yeah that was a killer, seeing the Waterpoint and then off to the left, to the left.

Agree on the batching, there were so many flying past us

Batching was good. Just enter sooner. Last year I was A1 and this year A6. All because I entered when entries opened.

No one flew past me, finished 19th and the 30km traffic at the end was as I expected it.

Bring on Java MTB ????
