Is it just me that can't see how a disc could cause that injury to a left leg of the rider, especially given that he did not actually fall?

The disc is on the left side, and his left leg had a whole bike between it and the bike he crashed into.

Don't try figure it out, some questions just don't have answers

FFS.

Next thing they will ban tar roads because they fall and get roasties.

I thought these were pros, why do they keep falling? This is becoming like football now

Think you are taking it bit too far.....

This is easy.

As a pro....YOU WILL FALL.  Because stupid people.

Would you want LESS dangerous things to fall on top off or MORE?

We have brakes.  It works.  Been working for centuries.

Lets make the brakes MORE dangerous.

Not so clever.

You'll find the "drive" behind the whole disk brake thing on road bikes are predominately done by the bike manufacture industry.

Just my 2c.

Next up: Lets ban spokes - a stray spoke on a broken wheel can puncture a lung. And those carbon seat posts and handle bars, sheered off by impact can create a potentially fatal puncture would too. A pedal that breaks off at the shaft with an exposed shaft through the quad... eina!

I guess we should all go and play soccer now.

You're not big on probabilities, hey?

Or are we just vying for edgelord of the day award?

First of all, I detest open letters. They are the most annoying medium to get your message across (this was actually more a "statement" than a letter, but calling it a letter just gets my jollies in a holly). Second of all, I think it is an over-reaction. Camera men on motor bikes and media cars have proven to be much more dangerous than disc brakes. If you are nervous about disc brakes on the wheel in front of you, sit on another wheel.

There's is a solution, seeing the roadies falling so much for whatever reasons...

See, problem solved...

Let the chaps that are pros racing in the peloton actually riding on those limits, looking for every advantage in the smallest of margins be the ones who say they are comfortable with the hazard of discs added to the mix or not. All the armchair warriors are welcome to do whatever pleases them on their bikes for the fun rides they attend!

Ent van prent!

I just hate the idea of listening to a disc brake rubbing sound and having to fiddle with pads and pad clearances...much easier to adjust on a rim brake and can even be done while riding.

hehe

G'night

Disk brakes can also be adjusted mid ride - pad contact point adjustment is tool free on decent brakes

No - it's not stupid - stronger lighter wheels, better modulation, better wet weather performance, not too sensitive to buckled wheels - a solid development indeed.

As to if that cut is really from a disk - given that he didn't fall off its hard to imagine how that was achieved exactly.

Seen much worse damage from chainrings though.

Really an unlucky injury for him and hopefully it wont leave more lasting damage than some minor scarring.

Can't comment on road bikes, but in my 28 years of riding mtb I've received stitches twice from chain rings. I've yet to even skin a knuckle on a disc...

Nuff' said

They even have motorbikes riding into them these days as well.

Disc brakes are for variable terrain like CX and mountain slopes.

They must also clench their fists when falling so that a spoke doesnt break a finger and tendon from a spinning wheel.

What are they gonna do about the sharp crank chainrings?

6 of one, half a dozen of the other I guess.

Spinergy wheels got banned year back because they were cutting cyclists and triathletes in falls.Imagine what a disc can do to a finger

I have a friend who had the tip of his finger cut off by a brake disc on a motorcycle while loading it. Hectic
