Cybercrow Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Im looking for a place to do some open water swims, does anyone know if emmarentia dam is safe to swim? or is there any other places to swim? Heia Safari is good but I hear it has some hippos?Any thoughts?
dirtrider Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 As long as you don't drink the water you should be fine , but I will not swim there . A recent study showed that Hippo's don't eat much in the Month of April .

David Marshall Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I used to sail there. The water quality varied over the year and the council used to test it and let us know the condition of the water. Don't know if they still do but I would check with the canoe club.

clivem Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 I swam there a lot this year, leading up to ironman, and all we got was a bit of sinus for a day after. Stay inside the buoys out of the way of canoeists.
_David_ Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Last time I swam at Emmarentia the water level was very low. I,ve been swimming at Heia almost every weekend this year and have had no problems.
ratherberidin' Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 I swim there often. Haven't got jippo guts, rash, or grew a third elbow so far. Usually people at the dabs club in busy times so always just leave my kit there on the grass - seems safe enough-ish. It's a treat training at peace knowing that the skelms don't like water.
