From shimano to sram

I think the more important part is see if your hub has the option to change freehubs. But I don't think you need to change from skewer to through axle.

Unless you truly want the gripshift, shimano 11spd might be an easier and cheaper option

Would I need to convert the skewer to thru axle?

The 'skewer' is related to the frame you have not the groupset and since you're changing the groupset no change is required or even physically possible.

To my understanding if your hub can take an XD driver it doesn't matter if it's skewer or thru-axle.

Your first port of call would be to investigate if your current rear hub can take an XD driver and if it is readily available. To this end it may help to let all the experts know exactly what model hub you have .... They will probably be able to confirm this info for you out of hand so to speak.

Unless you are trying to achieve and all American build I would advise you to stick with Shimano. My main reason is Shimano make the best breaks (Disk) in the business.

You can have the sram gruppo and an XT 11sp cassette, negating the need for an xd driver. No compatability issues whatsoever

The only issue with the Shimano cassette is the lack of a 10T cog.

You've never ridden Guide or Hope brakes!!!

You could possibly keep your crank as well, just get a compatible NW chainring.

Agree with Myles on the casette - you can even just get the Sunrace 11sp casette from Rapide when they have stock, great value for money.

I think the only problem with a 10 speed cog is that most of us can't spin it out..........
