Very sad as I've said and I don't want to start a negative course for the thread, but I think saying " poorly lit bridge" is not really fair on the organizers as it is the riders obligation for sufficient lighting in a night race, I've done a few 24hours and honestly I would say it's one of the best lit courses, I done a lap last year with my light barely throwing a beam, the organizers are extremely passionate about the sport and they ride the route also I would say the toppie is in his 70s easily, last year he clocked a few laps while running the event with his team

Also not throwing mud,but the first yellow bridge had a generator with a strong light on it,whereas the purple bridges only had small "christmas" lights on it. Yes, there are chicken runs, but there were complaints from riders regarding the very same bridges,a rider broke his arm during a warmup. Only this morning, after the incident, extra bunting was put up at certain points. It still remains the riders choice to ride the bridge or chicken run. Still very sad and unneccesary.

News from the event: Guy over cooked it on a bridge. Ambulance was there within 7 minutes. Was moved to a gov hospital. They were moving him to a private facility when he passed away en route.

Apparently his team is continueing with the race in his memory.

RIP all the best for his loved ones and friends.

My view are that instances like these should be learnt from so that the likelihood of them happening again gets reduced.

RIP

Very sad news! I personally feel the bridges was fine, never had a problem with them and I even jumped them with no problem. The only negative thing about the bridges it that they was a little high for the more inexperienced riders. I feel everyone saw the track in daylight and they are supposed to ride with a light they feel comfortable with.

It was really bad news about the rider this morning, condolences to the family!
