Some parents have no sense.

Yeah and end of the day doesn't matter how reckless some people may think it is, that child will remember that day dad and her and the dogs went for a ride and they will laugh about it.

Actually now that I think about it if the OP was so concerned , why didn't the OP offer to help or find out what the story was. .. but nope... rush home and go rant on the hub.

Because if people like me didn't create threads like this, you would have nothing to comment on and life on the Hub would be boring.

I suppose I love my kids too much and do my best to keep them out of harms way. As a parent, I sort of assumed other parents feel the same way.

What I find quite interesting is how many people have supported this act. I would like to ask those people something. Do you make your child wear a seat belt or sit in a baby chair because the law requires it or do you do it to keep your child safe?

Standing on the front seat of a car, without a seat belt is probably safer than sitting on your father's shoulders whilst being towed by dogs.

pffft....

Judging by the general comments, I myself am a complete moron and was heavily child abused....

I am covered in scars from doing stupid things. I am still doing stupid things.

I watched a couple stop they (must have been 3 year old) boy from playing on the lawn while it was wet as he could slip and fall. Good lord?!

by all means slip and fall. Cut yourself, get some bruises. Become someone who isn't a complete wimp who plays on ipads or battlefield 4 and has diet induced diabetes because they are too scared to go outside.

We are quickly becoming a society of judging hypocrites whose children will be so precious we will be nursing 'victims' and a generation who are incapable of taking control or making decisions.

100% jewbacca. Kids that have to have their shoes on when they play outside, and jerseys/vests when the clouds come over. And play in the mud, no way, far too many noonoos...

We over protect our kids. They need to learn to take and manage risks, or they'll grow up unadventurous and over-anxious. But so many kids today are oh-so-smart on computers and phones even though their gross motor co-ordination is under developed. Ask any OT (occupational therapist). We don't allow our kids to do their own school assignments, make decisions, or even just do nothing some days.

I agree some people are not the smartest when it comes to strapping in their kids etc. (Most South Africans get transported in taxis without seatbelts, so it's no wonder).

My brother and I used to play cowboys and crooks with pellet guns. Many times when we went camping one of us would throw some. 22 bullets in the fire. Made our own flares out of R1 assult rifle tracers by taking out the point of the bullet, reaming the casing, refill with gunpowder and set them alight, big fun. Will i let my son do it, I don't know, but I will certainly show him what we did and tell him that it was very dangerous. We had one hell of a childhood and I miss it for my kid's sake growing up in such a protective environment.

Ok now you didn't think that through very carefully. Seriously, not even close.

So as far as saftey goes my kids know the basics and Ive tried to teach them basic common sense.  But kids still do stupid stuff.  Ive helped nurses hold my boy down while he gets stitched up (jumping off a rusted vespa motorbike),  sat late into the night while my daughter has surgery after breaking her radius and ulna (showing off on a monkeyswing at a party) and even sent a kid to school with black eyes and a broken nose (chasing brother and slipping and hitting her face into the edge of the table).

I got up to so much nonsense as a kid.  For three years I rode a bmx with no brakes (never had a helmet).  I jumped off roofs, went swimming alone, and played wwf wrestling with my sister.  But it was fun

Don't you people get it.

I'm not talking about falling on wet grass or playing in the mud, riding in the streets etc. I'm not saying children should be wrapped in cotton wool or prevented from playing on swings or jungle gyms.

I am talking about a 2/3 year old that has been placed in a dangerous situation by her father.

If you guys can't see the danger in what he did, then fine, live your lives the way you want to.

We all cycle here, we all (well most of us) wear helmets to protect ourselves in case of an accident. Why is this any different? Why do some of you take precautions to protect yourself, but find it not necessary for a father to protect a 3 year old?

I gave my 3year old laaitjie a hiding of note today for playing with my .45 pistol. Now I didn't hit him because he was playing with my fully loaded gun(8 shot with one up), I wacked him because he shot out all my expensive bullets. At least he will have another story to tell his kids one day if he lives long enuf to father his own.I now only leave 4 bullets in the gun when I put it away at night next to the TV remote.kids can be so naughty I tell u.

I think he is old enough to have his gun....

Saw a father trying to teach his kid to ride a bike yesterday and she must be about 3 years old.

It was on quite a steep hill and the odd car going past. She had no helmet and he would give her a push to start her down the hill.

After about 4 times of doing this she lost her balance and headed straight to the road but fortunately the driver saw her and swerved out the way.Her father then shouted loads of obscenities at him.

Some people will never learn.

Odd, plenty of hubbers recalling all the crazy things they got up to, none recalling crazy things their parents did to them and I would put the incident mentioned by the OP right up there

Remember this, it led to a flurry of parents imitating Jackson act whenever one of his songs came on the radio.

That really is not fair on the kid. What exactly are you trying to teach him? You know you shouldn't leave your expensive bullets lying around
