How safe is cameras on handlebars??

As said above, they do add danger to an already dangerous sport.

I think they are about as dangerous as a rock next to the trail.

Having said that, one can try minimise the danger that they pose with clever mounts. Under the bars, seat pots etc.

I wont mount mine if the space that my face often occupies, above the bars high up like some of their standard mounts. Putting it on your head, or chest also increases the chances of einas happening.

How dangerous they are is up to the person using it. I have hit my head a few times on rocks, after falling, from trying to stop or start the GoPro, or see if it is recording, but never hit the GoPro itself. Makes me feel like this.

The biggest danger in MTB is trying to race when you haven't done any MTB specific training. Or riding with guys who are a lot better than you and you don't have any experience.

If you think you can't ride something, you probably can't. The only way you get to know what you can and can't ride is to ride a bit without pressure. Try ride something slowly a few times, you realise that you can't ride it. Watch someone else ride it, then try again. When you get to a race, hop off and walk. Eventually you will be able to ride most things.

This is where I mount my camera.

I agree that MTB is a dangerous sport, I found the older I get and the more I train MTB, the less I crash.

Sure, but don't you think that  fitting that big grown bean bag to your bars is going to lead to other problems?

If you mount it in a position where you would hit your head in the handlebar before hitting the GoPro, you are no worse off.
