bla bla bla bla bla bla bla..........

The after the race area sucked big time - little to eat and drink, very poor at best.

My 2 cents

I had about 3 wors rolls and did some serious damage to the Mitchells beer supply, there was plenty food and drink.

Race wasnt so dusty so I cant imagine dust in your eyes not being able to see all this.

I have an entry from last years race and am probably not going to do it .

THe reasons are as stated but to re-iterate:

If you don't have a seeding near the front you will encounter massive bottlenecks as it is after all the spruit, which is after all single file in many places and on the technical obstacles.

So although there are some funky new things there - its 95% of what you can ride over the weekend free of charge which you now have to pay R 399 for.

And it's likely to have massive bottlenecks. So the queues are going to mean a lot of walking over what you normally ride over. Dirt roadies who are strong on the hills and in front of you will dismount and push over all the fun stuff and jumps, that is if they are even included (like the Sunninghill lines)

For R 399.

Anyone who wants my entry can have it - i plan on being far away from there

Maybe 30-40% you can normally ride  ;)

I'm no race snake... started in I think D batch the first year... had two bottle necks. Lasted 10 minutes in total maybe. I got so angry I almost killed 47 people... nah just kidding, I chatted with some like minded riders and enjoyed what was a very unique race and some very interesting riding places.

Each to their own, but I almost get the impression you've let a bunch of naysayers put you off a ride. You're from us older riding generation - we got lost at every race, there was always some logistical mess - but you know what, it sure as heck beat the crap out of a day at home on the couch. Put on your big girl panties Mr Pruinaard  :D

Ja, post race was awesome... a little too awesome actually. Mitchells is definitely not performance enhancing, I sukkeled to ride that 6kms back home

WHAT? There was plenty to eat and drink. Are you sure we are talking about the same event?

I found it poor, for that kind of entry fee I thought it was poor....I expect better. There are great events to rather do....

Not sure what you expect but Mitchells on tap, cold drinks on ice and plenty to eat did it for me. Parkhurst is only about 4km away with plenty establishments to choose from, sure you'll find something you like, else feel free to make a suggestion or two to improve things.

I suppose it depends why you ride the race.

For me the spruit is something you ride up in an hour and descend in 20 minutes to get the flow working and get some nice fast riding in on some of the jumps and berms etc.

You need to be moving to make it fun and make it worth it.

Now you take the same trail and shove a couple of thousand people down it and you will pedal and walk some of the best pieces because its too congested and maybe do it at a third of the speed.

The rest of it - storm water drains etc - are already dangerous and polluted.

So for some reason we all of a sudden think it's cool to ride in them and call it an adventure?

They aren't going to be any less slippery....

All to take part? I can have more fun on my own when it's quiet...

If you have a seeding and want to belt it then you are cool, but for the unseeded masses who don't race often its going to be a ball ache. Like the 94.7 route etc.

Despite all the naysayers, i am going to give it a bash this year.

We all tend to bitch and moan so much that we sometimes miss that which (i feel) could be quite lekker.

Anyway, hope the weather plays along.

If it's ***, i'll have an extra beer or two.

I've got a free entry for the 54km for anyone that is interested. If any payment is due in order to do a substitution, it will be for your cost. PM me for details.

Isnt it Sunday?

I open a beer anytime of the day, breakfast, lunch or dinner... Ive been frowned at a few times.

My story is that beer has a use by date, NOT an open after time.

There are other great events - take the Cape Epic for instance - cost per KM about 10 times the juma....

Still - I had a fun ride last time - couple of offs - no bottlenecks and  it's such a short race who needs a waterpoint - couple of beers at the finish and home in time for tea - what more can one ask for?
