holy effin chicken skin....

At the news of Steve Smith's tragic passing, the mountain bike community gathered in online forums and social media around the world to pay their respects. During the outpouring of love and gratitude for Stevie, one Pinkbike user Hwulex put out a heartfelt request to host a memorial run for Stevie at the next World Cuo. That request gained so much momentum online, that we eventually forwarded the request on to Red Bull and the UCI for consideration, and now it will become a reality in Fort Bill. It will be an opportunity for all of the community to pay their respects to Stevie in one solitary moment.

he UCI has decided to take up your idea to pay tribute to Stevie Smith. Together with Red Bull and our event's partners we've decided to plan a memorial run in Fort William, UK, early June. Stevie's passing away has been a shock for the Mountain Bike community and beyond. This dedicated moment will provide a fitting honour to "The Chainsaw" and will also celebrate his contribution to the MTB discipline. Thank you again for providing the initial impetus for this memorial. More details will follow

Some good news comes out of such a sad time: happy to see there will be a memorial run. Thanks for listening to the community, UCI, and glad I could be a part of that voice. #LongLiveChainsaw

From the comments on Pinkbike Stevie was a well liked rider in Great Britain and I am sure that the Fort Bill crowd will give him a rousing send off! Great gesture from the UCI to recognize Steve's contribution to and passion for the sport.

Also fairly sure our Canadian brothers and sisters will find an appropriate way to celebrate his life and his impact on our sport and community.

"This is Stevie's mom....I would like to thank all of the followers, fans, and friends of Steve, for the awesome display of love shown for him. Whether it be through his Facebook fan page, Instagram, Pinkbike, or other websites, there has been a tremendous amount of messages...I have tried to read them all, and answer as many as possible, but I would need a team to complete this task. As his mom, I know he is wonderful, but I have also found, more than I could have ever dreamed, that people all over the world loved him as well. I love reading all of the "Stevie" stories and receive great comfort in them. I would also like to thank those who contributed to his "Go fund me" account. When the dust has settled, and I need to keep busy, I will come up with a way I can use the funds to keep Steve's memory alive. ...some type of "Kids and Bikes" program will be developed. Again, thank you all for your kind words and I will make sure that the "Stevie Smith" story continues! Love and miss my boy!‪#‎longlivechainsaw‬

I'd give that woman a huge hug. For me, there are two memories of stevie: his riding, and his mom, thanks to that segment in seasons.

Great to see she appreciates the comments and wishes.

Has anyone seen any reports on what actually happened to Stevie? We know he crashed on the Friday before and was on life support for 3 or so days.

And his mom, getting a profile on PB and just interacting with the members there and on FB. Steve's Mom. He was well loved, it seems.
