the 27.5 vs 29er debate

My wife rides a 650b...and your wife is ALWAYS right.

Anyway, I don't get these comparison things:

Take a 650b, blast a course, set a time.

Take a 29er, blast the same course, compare the time.

If the time is faster, ergo, the 29er is faster.

Completely ignoring the fact that it is human nature to want to be faster, to want to beat your previous time REGARDLESS of the equipment. So if you go out on another bike you instinctively want to beat the time set!

And also ignoring the fact that on your second run, you now enter the course with knowledge of the course. So you know where to go faster.

When I put my bike next to my wife's bike, against the wall, they are exactly the same "fast".

You assume they all went 650b first, which is not the case.

But that's the thing.  That guy spent zero time on 29'ers and his first run on it was 10 seconds quicker than the fastest run on his race bike.

Then there were guys who spent most of their time on 27.5 and jumped on a 29er and was slower then on the 27.5 so really it's a load of bolony the wheel size thing, its up to the rider skill. Same thing with Tracy Moseley spent most of her time on a 29er and jumped on a 27.5 but she was faster on the 29er but she admitted that the 27.5 had sharper and quicker handling in corners but 29er rolled better over the rocks and roots.

At the end of the day, the answer to "which is faster, 275 or 29?" is "It Depends"

Well at least we can all agree that 26" is dead...

False.......Plenty of students still ride them to class and they all agree that the 26er is way faster than walking   :whistling:

29 on the front, 27.5 on the back and have a spare 27.5+ in the shed for the trainer.... Problem solved.

I saw a Spaz Stumpie 6Fattie with 29" front and 27.5+ rear wheel.

It also had an Öhlins RXF34 front shock

And you could call it a mullet bike! Or does the 27.5 wheel not qualify as a party in the back?

I think its alot down to the size and style of a person therefor everybody will say the wheelsize they ride is best

Was on a 29er for long and took me quite a while to get very confident

was confident on a 650b from the get go and will probably be riding one for years to come
