Reserve your pockets for egg sandwiches

I just vomited in my mouth.

Nothing worse than eating a chickens period at the best of times, now you put it on a sarmie

I was with the late Jeanne Nell (died in a track cycling crash a year or three ago) when he had a bit crash on the road, this was many many years ago. I was riding behind him and I could see that he doubted how tight his front quick release was. To test, he pulled up on the bars. The quick release was basically completely loose. The wheel came out, the fork stuck into the road and he went flying. I was next to him first, he was in a state. Being a very young junior myself back then I literally turned around and walked away saying out loud, "He's gone.". Bad crash. My parents were also there at the time and ended up calling an ambulance as soon as they could. I'm not sure who called his dad Johann (a great man). We went with the ambulance to the hospital. When we got there Jeanne's dad was already there, even though they stayed further away from the hospital than the distance between the crash and the hospital. Jeanne was groaning with pain, he couldn't speak, but gestured to his back the whole time. Everyone thought his back was broken. He groaned non-stop from pain. Eventually someone figured out no-one removed his Oakleys from his back shirt pocket... The guy was laying with the glasses jamming into his back and couldn't get a word out to let someone know.

So ja... nothing hard in your back pockets, ever. If its hard, saddlebag it.

Had it under the stem but some chop stole it. Seems like people are losing the Samurai swords.

Don't make me find my pictures of what happens if you tape it to a top tube....

I have not lost a sword yet - despite a few crashes (including into you - sorry about that :) ) and a J2C and CE and several other events on the same set - they are in any case better bar end protection than most available bar end plugs except maybe the alloy ones (which are not cheap)

I can't see anyone swiping my tattered looking set - maybe if they were new.

Spez SWAT box in the down tube is the business.

Tube, bombs, adaptors, puncture repair  - pack it ONCE and forget.

Oh, and the multi-tool fits into the frame.

"Seems like an OK idea" / "kinda useful" on paper but is flipping awesome in practice.

I carry all my items in a PocPac in my back pockets. Nothing pointy can really shift such that it'll poke me in the back and it's also waterproof!

PS why do you go over the bars? Get a larger frame bike with a shorter stem or a dropper :)

I think the lesson should be - check your quick release levers before setting off on a ride.

I learn slow....this time it was a small jump. Did every thing in the book wrong and got punished. Fortunately I could hobble away to give it go, ANOTHER day.

& if in doubt don't pull a wheelie to check if it's tight.

Also saw that as a kid playing in the street, another kid pulled a wheelie and the front wheel came out.  Slow motion look of realisation and horror from the rider before the crash & afterwards the wheel still going down the road.

That was 1975 so it made an impression - more on him than me.

Who even carries tools, that for noobs. Just make sure your mates you ride with have all the kit and use their stuff. Camelbacks, tools in a can and saddle bags are all uncool.

You will give Rouxtjie a heart attack!!!

He would have been a millionaire if it wasnt for okes like you!
