Oh, and to the Cycling site and Journalist who reported on Keagan being dead, do you realise what trauma you have caused his family in NZ, to get that call at night being told your son is dead, then turning on the web, and he is alive, then dead, then alive.....

As a sign of apology, I think you should pay for their flights to be with their son, its the least you can do!

Does anyone know the twitter name of the site that incorrectly reported this??

It looks like it was the website www.thebikecomesfirst.com.  Had a look and don't see any articles on there.  So they must have removed it.  I am not sure if they posted it or was it just a link to another site.

The url to their twitter is https://twitter.com/bikecomesfirst.  Was there any other sites that reported it or that may contain the original report?

Many of the cycling news sites made mention of the earlier erroneous reports, but it's unclear if they ran reports stating he had passed.

From the link I posted earlier, here's what Desere said to me about the false reports:

Reports that the accident had cost Keagan his life circulated widely on social media and cycling forums.

“To say we were gutted to read reports on social media about his passing is an understatement‚” said Desere.

“We just had to believe that it was not true and wait for official news from his team.

“Who started the rumour or thought it their place to post it is beyond my comprehension.

“We are grateful for all the messages of support and need all the prayers and positivity we can get for our boy.”

All the best to the family and Keegan as well......his parents must be devastated and worried....not knowing what might happen......

This bit where she spoke to the media shakes the insides......a parent in that situation...... :(

I remember seeing an apology tweet later in the evening.

It really is so stupid and irresponsible of media outlets to report without confirmation.

It was first posted here that he had died. And we all immediately posted our condolences. . We should know better and we should be more responsible in our actions.
